The weather is always changing here in the U.P….as you often hear folks say, "If you don't like the weather, wait five minutes, it will change". Looking back in the archives on this day, we find some weather related photos, including this beauty by Dan Urbanski, featured in 2007. He captured the power of the skies, which is scary looking, yet beautiful at the same time. Lightning streaking above Lake Superior, what an amazing shot!

Then we have those beautiful nights here UP North, when the sun is setting and you are in the right place at the right time to create a unique shot, like Joyce Tormala did back in 2010. Did you notice the agate the person circling the sun is holding? U.P. treasures!

Some days here in the Keweenaw, when it rains, it pours. On this day in 2013, Joy Ziemnick captured a rainstorm coming across the Big Lake, obliterating the view as it falls from the skies. Even the storms are fascinating here UP North.

I'm not sure if we get more storms than other areas in the Country, but the video here today is a report from Meteorologist Mark Torregrossa on the Lightning danger in Michigan. Interesting statistics and information.

Dramatic pix and interesting video. I don't see it on the pie-chart, but what's the percentage for: "Going in the bushes"?

2007's picture is nothing short of "Superior".

Quite the informative video. I had no idea.

Great pictures one and all. After watching the video concerning lightning it brings a whole new meaning to the phrase "you have a better chance of getting struck by lightning."

Alex... "Going in the bushes" or "Hiding in the bushes"???? lol

Anybody notice that the claims made by Mark Torregrossa are proven false by the statistics that he shows? He says Michigan is number 2 in lighting deaths but his chart says it is number 13. He says boys 12-20 are most likely to get hit by lighting but his chart says 20-29. Unfortunately typical M-Live reporting.

News media, governments, teachers, parents, anyone actually:
The paradox of our obsessive urge to control is that we invariably release forces that will not be controlled, or only with great difficulty and at great expense.

By Richard J. (Dick_fl) on Thursday, August 17, 2017 - 07:40 am:

john mich, It's not just M-Live that lies. It is all the news media.
Thats why they give themselves awards for "creative" reporting. I've
seen it on the smallest little podunk station to the major news
media.Blame it on the universities and colleges where truthful
reporting is not as valued as a good story.
