There are so many historic places around the U.P. and many of them have been featured on the Pasty Cam during the past 19 years. Today's archive shots start with one from Earl Seppala, back in 2001. He had visited the old church in Redridge that had been abandoned and let go to ruin. From what I understand, it's since been completely demolished.

Moving ahead a couple years to 2005, we make a visit to Fayette State Park on US2 near Manistique, with Suzanne Lunn. It was once an important industrial community in the steel industry, providing a smelting operation for the manufacture of charcoal pig iron. A great example of history being preserved for our future generations.

Then back in 2012 we visit the old Quincy School in a photograph from Henry Lehtola. It was destroyed by a fire in 1927, so this building has been gone for quite some time now.

Jump to present day and a visit to Gay, MI for the 4th of July festivities, we get a look at the Historic Gay School building exterior that the Keweenaw Historical Society has been busy working to restore both the inside and the outside of this treasure of history.

The video today, takes us to Historic Fayette Park, with some background on the history of the industry of the town that once was a thriving community.

Great pictures of these older places. I can't
believe it's been about 40 years since I've
visited Fayette Park. How time flies.

Excellent pix and video! I remember taking a very nice ride to Fayette on the Wing. From there I took a quiet, leisurely ride all the way down to the end of the peninsula to Fairport...I highly recommend it.

Very interesting pictures of the past this morning. It is a shame that there is so much of our history that we can't afford to keep. I applaud every bit of historical preservation that takes place and all of the movers and shakers behind those efforts.
Ghost towns are interesting places I like to visit also. There are a lot more of them than I thought existed.

Alex, did you go to Burnt Bluff and see the petroglyphs?

Nope...didn't get there, Jbuck.
