I didn't look back and count, but I'm guessing that in the past 19 years of daily photos from the U.P., we here at Pasty Central have probably covered Michigan Technological University graduation the majority of those years. It's quite an event in the graduate's lives, not to mention the pride and relief the parents feel on this day, too.

Back in 2009, I happened to be in the spectator seats, watching my niece, Heather graduate Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, along with a minor in Bioprocess Engineering. It was a proud day for our family, along with the rest of the graduates and their families.

Over the past weekend, Michigan Tech and Finlandia University held their commencement ceremonies. Nearly 1100 students received degrees from these two Copper Country Universities... that's a whole bunch of proud parents and family. Our video today looks at graduation eve and day, in the life of 2017 Mich. Tech graduate, Jason Hawke, who was also #32 on the Tech men's basketball team. Congratulations to all the graduates!

Very nice record of the day! Congratulations!

I was going to make a funny comment about the band's attire but didn't want the Huskites to be upset about a light hearted comment.

Great experience and congratulations to all. I speak from first hand knowledge looking back to 1976. A very happy day for my parents. I left them with a very proudful smile on their faces and their bank account somewhat lighter. I'm pretty sure it was only their 3rd trip to Houghton. Once to check it out with me. Once to drop me off and once to come to graduation. My celebration was a 3 week trip to Isle Royale the next day.

Very entertaining video...future movie producer, perhaps? As with D. A. (Midwested), I'll bet there are a lot of alumni/alumna memories taking place as they watch this.

D. A. (Midwested), i graduated from Northern in 1977 and i think my situation was exactly the same as far as family visits during college. They made many other trips to Marquette when i wasn't at NMU.... hmmm, maybe that was a hint. Or maybe it was because of their lightened bank accounts too!

jbuck,

LOL indeed! To make matters worse, they moved from the Detroit area to Northern Illinois while I was in school. I came home on break and they weren't there...had to then track them down. (Just kidding). Since I didn't have a car, it was then harder to find a ride home through Wisconsin to Illinois at breaks, especially one that would haul all those bags of dirty laundry. :>)
