The Pasty Cam has been such an exciting journey over the past couple of decades, exploring in and around the U.P. Ten years ago Neil Harri took us along on a flyover of Beaver Island, between the Upper and Lower Peninsulas in Lake Michigan. It was the first that Edie and I had heard of "King Strang", and we eventually included a couple of references in Pasty Central Day in History. Here's a brief Michigan Radio documentary on the Mormon leader who brought attention to Beaver Island in the 1800's.

All that colorful history aside, the Island is a thriving community, year-round home to hundreds of people who enjoy its resources, beauty, and solitude (some may even say isolation). Vaguely reminds me of a conversation Edie and I had back in the 70's about the prospect of living in the U.P. :)
