Many of the birds that reside in the Keweenaw are really snowbirds that fly south for the winter months, returning as spring begins to warm things UP here. Then there are some that live just south of the U.P. and sometimes make a visit to our more northern bird feeders, like the beautiful red Cardinal that Fred Koski captured back in 2006.

Hawks are one of the many birds that migrate to warmer climates. Back in 2016, Illa Garver snapped the second photo, of a recently returned hawk, sitting on the Houghton parking deck, minding its own business.

Just a couple days ago, Judy Byykkonen spotted three turkeys trotting through her yard, near Lake Linden. She was quite surprised to see this trio and said that her dogs had been barking and growling off on and on for a couple weeks and once she saw these three right there in her yard, she knew what had her pups so wound up. Turkeys were pretty uncommon here in the area, but in recent years we've been seeing them around more and more.

Back in the day when I was a kid, Saturday meant a morning of cartoons, since we didn't have TV channels like Cartoon Network or Nickelodeon that you could watch them any day of the week. So, I figured it would be fitting then, to share a cartoon video with you all today about Birds in the Spring. Sit back and enjoy the animated chirping and antics of these silly little birds. Happy April Fool's Day :o)

The falcons are back on the lift bridge and there is a new nest box on the North tower. I checked this morning and there was a falcon hanging out at the nest box.

The 2006 photo is remarkably clear and detailed, even for that year.
And the video was entertaining, even without zombies, witches or alien aircraft.

I DO miss the old days with the April Fool's pictures! Several good ones in the review!

You just can't go wrong with bird pictures. And I
do especially love seeing Cardinals.
