Here UP North is one of the best places to view the Northern Lights. Until you've seen them in person, you don't realize what is so special about these night lights dancing across the sky. A number of different photographers have shared their photos of these sky lights throughout the years, including Jeremy Rowe of Keweenaw Night Sky Photography. Back in 2016 and 2015, we featured his photos of the Aurora Borealis on the Lake Superior shores.

When the Northern Lights aren't out brightening the horizon, there still is beauty to behold in the U.P. evening sky. Sharon Bodenus of Upper Peninsula Photography proves that with her current photo of an evening at McCarty Cove in Marquette. Amazing colors in the sky.

To top off the beautiful photos of the U.P. sky, our featured video is the Aurora Borealis display over the Copper Harbor Cabins. The video beginning says it best: "The sky came alive."

You never get tired of seeing the pictures of the Aurora Borealis ~ or McCarty's Cove!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, March 18, 2017 - 09:45 am:

Spectacular pictures. And yes to what Jbuck said!
Never tiring in the least!

By Duane P. (Islandman43) on Saturday, March 18, 2017 - 10:25 am:

Outstanding pictures of the Northern Lights. The greatest heavenly sight to see and waterfalls are the greatest earthly sight to see, at least in my untrained eye.

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Saturday, March 18, 2017 - 03:10 pm:

Can you imagine what Native Americans thought when they saw the Northern Lights? No wonder there were so many legends about what they were.

Now that's just beautiful!
Memories of nights walking up the road (North on Larson Road from 3-mile corner) on the ol' family farm in Bruce Crossing. Happy times!

And now for a fun little quiz for folks in Pastyland today: Where are we?

CopperCountryBar&Grill
"Copper Country Bar & Grill"

Could be a trick question, the U.P. would be the
obvious guess, so I am guessing somewhere in your
home state of Arizona.

Well, if you order takeout, they will put it in a bag, dad.

"Whatchoo talkin' 'bout Willis¹, er… Alex?"
The (click →) Bagdad Café perhaps? Nope.

Quote:

"The setting [for the movie], Bagdad, California is a former town on U.S. Route 66. After being bypassed by Interstate 40, it was abandoned and eventually razed. While the town had a "Bagdad Café", the film was shot at then then-Sidewinder Cafe in Newberry Springs, California, 50 miles west of the site of Bagdad. The café has become something of a tourist destination and to capitalize on the movie it changed its name to the Bagdad Café. A small notice board on the café wall features snapshots of the film's cast and crew."

Beautiful!

By Richard J. (Dick_fl) on Sunday, March 19, 2017 - 07:24 am:

According to Google Maps it is Bagdad, AZ 86321

No foolin you folks!

I really didn't think Google Maps would pop that up so easily — tho' it did for me, I really thought that was Google Maps' "memory" from my previous visits.

What, that's the only "Copper Country Bar & Grill" on the planet? I'm shocked!

But right you are:

BagdadAZ
"The Best Copper Town Anywhere"?

Whaaat? And they're still mining copper!
Almost makes a Yooper feel like a has been (or is that a "yoosta was"?) 😢
