Last winter, Brenda Leigh drove many miles trying to find a Snowy Owl. But she captured this one while not even out looking, it was simply sitting there waiting for her to snap a photo on her way home from town. She said they were talking about them, when surprise, a few minutes later there was this one sitting up there on the pole. Beautiful bird, indeed!

Meanwhile, back at home, Brenda was busy drying the sheets…freeze drying that is! She said that she wanted to crawl into nice laundered sheets freeze dried from the clothes line outside, so she dug in with her shovel to make a path to the lines first and then below her clothes lines, which took about 20 minutes. Then she hung her sheets, along with a shirt and pants, remembering how her Mom used to dry their clothes like this when she was a kid and then bring them in to hang on lines in the living room until they thawed out. Brenda also wanted to see how long it would take for them to dry stiff, which she said took only ten minutes and they were so frozen she could barely get them off the line.

The fun part of this experiment was seeing the pants and shirt stand up in the snow once they were frozen and off the line. The not so fun part was the shoveling to get to where she could hang the clothes, but Brenda said she kept reminding herself that she was doing it because she wanted to, not because she had no choice for drying clothes like her Mom did way back when. Freeze dried clothes and sheets, what a crisp idea!

That brings back a lot of nice memories. My mom used to dry her laundry outside on the line all through the winter. So did all of our neighbors. No one had dryers. Thanks for the great memories.

My favorite bird of all seasons. I think they are a great looking bird. Thanks for sharing. Also thanks for bringing back memories of the days when clothes dryers were rarer than Snowy Owls.
