When the sun shines here in the Keweenaw winter, you have to take advantage of it and get outdoors to soak up some vitamin D. Joy Ziemnick made sure she got her fair share of the sunshine, along with some icy Lake Superior views.

You can see by her photos of the Big Lake, that it depends where exactly you are, whether there are floating ice bergs and ice or if the expanse is completely covered to the shoreline. And then on the shoreline, very little rock is peeking out from beneath all the ice formed from crashing waves in freezing temperatures.

Joy also captured a hard working plow driver scraping the highway to keep the main trunk lines clear. But I think my favorite of all her photos today, is the second to the last one with the sun coming through the snow covered trees like a star in the sky!

The last photo was taken on their way home... supporting the old saying around these parts, that if you don't like the weather in the Keweenaw, wait 5 minutes, it will change. The day turned from sunshine to blowing snow in a matter of a few minutes, so that's what the drive home looked like. At least the sun was out for part of the day!

Beautiful pix Joy!! The crew sure keep the roads nicely manicured!!

What great pictures! The plow drivers out here
could use some training on how to keep the roads
clear from UP plow drivers.

I have a picture almost exactly like that last
picture. It's the road behind our house after a
snow storm, only the sun is shining through and you
can see it a little better, lol.

Winter is my least favorite time of year but I can't deny the beauty. Great pictures thanks for sharing.

What great pictures of our winter wonderland!

These pictures bring back memories of going up to our cabin once a winter and checking out the Lake Huron shoreline.

And, it sure is nice to see real winter--enough snow to ski on, blues skies---as opposed to sleet/freezing rain/cold rain, mud, ice & dead grass that we have down here in SE Michigan.
