We've been getting a number of storms here in the Keweenaw lately and Barb Bouwkamp happened to be outside after one of them to capture the afterglow in the sky over Big Traverse. Quite the amazing shot with the reflection of the rainbow in the Lake Superior waters, too. Such is the beauty that comes after the storm.

In Barb's second photo, she happened to be in the right place at the right time, to catch this flock of geese enjoying the beginnings of evening light on Rice Lake, with the moon already rising into the sky. I'm not sure what causes this to happen, but I've always found it fascinating that you can sometimes see the moon up in the sky, before the dark of night is upon us. By the looks of the clouds off on the horizon in this shot, it looks like this was taken after a storm had passed through, too.

Very nice pics, especially the rainbow (God's sign that He will never flood the world again).

Classic! If Stallone showed up in the first one, would that make it a Rambow?

Beautiful Photos! Never really been around Big Traverse, I'm going to have to look that area over next time U.P.!

LOL Alex, and.... Yes it would make it a "Rambow"!

WOW!

Great pictures. Rainbows and geese, two things in nature that have a calming effect on me. If you want to see a lot of rainbows go to my home town, National Mine. That is where the rainbows go while they are waiting for it to rain.

Oh wow, these are great. Thanks, Barb!

National Mine! I haven't been there in over 30 years!

Islandman43, is there much left there other than the rainbows now?

By Duane P. (Islandman43) on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 - 02:57 pm:

jbuck:) Not much left there but a bunch of people with different names. The store even finally closed up. That was the last of the market places. The school still sits up on the hill empty and slowly falling apart. Back in the day there was two stores, a gas station, and a federal building.(Post Office) That was probably before you were there last. The tilden mine is still getting deeper and keeping the property taxes low. That is about the state of the community now. Thanks for asking. Lots and lots of rainbows though:)

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 - 09:49 pm:

Yes, Islandman43, i think the general store was all that was open back then. We always stopped in there. Sorry to hear they haven't found a use for the old school. Which reminds me, weren't they going to do something with the old Palmer school? My friend's family owned the little store over there.

By Duane P. (Islandman43) on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 - 10:06 pm:

jbuck:) I'm not sure about the Palmer school. I will find out though and let you know. I think the little town of Palmer is going to take somewhat of a hit when they close the Empire Mine. Which is going to be done by the end of the year. There are 400 or so people that work there and I'm sure a portion of those people live in Palmer.
When I was young, the National Mine store sold everything including shoes, shirts and pants. People didn't have reliable enough transportation back then to go to the big city to shop. Those were different days and different dreams.
