Over in the Marquette area, you can drive on county road MC510, like Bob Gilreath and his wife Liz did and you'll come across the CR510 bridge built in 1921 that is no longer in use except to foot traffic, along with the CR510 bridge built in 2010 to replace the older one that spans over the Dead River.

Like the bridge in Chassell that was featured a few weeks back, this historic old truss span bridge was not demolished when the new one to replace it was built, thus preserving a bit of history and a great steel structure. So many times it's out with the old and in with the new and because it's built in the same spot, the old has to be destroyed. It's great when that's not the case such as this situation.

I love these old bridges. BridgeHunters.com has a
nice write up on this bridge.

Awesome stuff! And from this vantage point, that
old bridge looks safer to me! Great stuff hiding
in plain sight in our beautiful U.P., eh!!

Love those steel truss bridges.

I definitely prefer the lines and look of the old
steel bridges to the new cold concrete ones
