Bob Gilreath and his wife Liz were out touring in their side by side and made a stop at the entrance to the Calumet Lions Club Park (a.k.a. Calumet Dam) where they found these beautiful blue flowers blooming in the fields there. I did an Internet search and I think they're called Chionodoxa luciliae, which is a bulbous perennial that blooms in the Spring. It is also referred to as Boissier's glory of the snow or Lucile's glory of the snow, in honor of Swiss botanist Pierre Edmond Boissier and his wife Lucile. Once it blooms, it then goes dormant until the next spring. Pretty little flowers!

The building there in the photos is an old mining building, the Calumet Mill Boiler House. Bob mentioned that at one time it also housed Demars Used Cars and parts. In Bob's photos, you can see where the rails used to go right into the building for part of the copper mining process back in the heyday of the mines here in the Keweenaw. Bob was also able to stick his camera through a hole in the building for a cool interior shot. You can see that the building and area around it were cleaned up quite well in making the Lions Club Park around that area. There is quite a bit of this flower around our area,(Menominee County) in open areas, and along the edge of the woods. We always called it "Scilla" * as mentioned in your Wikipedia link. Interesting blue coloration in the Spring!

Glory of the Snow it is! It looked like common
scilla (also called Siberian squill) but the sky-
blue blossoms have a white heart. There is a pink
version also. Very winter hardy and cheerful to see
on the first mild spring days.

Very nice pictures. I love seeing the beginnings of
flowers popping up. The deer ate most of our
tulips, however. Good thing they're pretty.

Anyway, the first 2 pictures are my favorites
because of the flowers. Nice shots all around,

Nice pics...pics of nature is always good to see...I got some pics in the woods of lichen drapping the trees...those are always good too see.
