Bob Gilreath said that a few weeks back he was having his morning coffee with his wife, watching the birds on their feeders, when suddenly they all flew away and it became silent. That usually means trouble is about, so Bob investigated and sure enough, he spotted today's guest in the tree just above their feeders. He thinks it's a Sharp-shined Hawk and was pleased that it was gracious enough to give him a front and back view to help identify what kind of hawk it was.

His daughter, Sarah, wondered if it only had one leg, because that's all you can see in the photos. Bob said he assumed it was just tucked up in its feathers to keep it warm. A friend made the observation that if this hawk truly had only one leg, it may have trouble hunting and he looks to be in pretty good shape, so he assumed that it was just tucked out of sight.

With pictures like this, it looks like Bob is taking full advantage of being retired and able to take life at a slower pace. Keep the pictures coming!

We were just discussing with a neighbor about how the birds disappear when a hawk is in the area.

I so enjoyed the photos of the beautiful hawk! I see
them around but have never had one at my bird feeder.

That hawk has cold feet, as do I'm sure all the
other birds and small critters in his area.
