Little Lake is located over near Gwinn and is where Sharon Bodenus calls home. Sharon started off the week for us, on Monday, with some Spring like photos of waterfalls and beach rocks. Today she gives us a look at what happened here in the U.P. this past weekend as winter reared its ugly head once again. Sharon said in Little Lake, they received around 12" of snow for this latest storm total. She starts today with two sunrise photos that were taken Monday morning after the storm finally settled down long enough for a beautiful sunrise to pop up. Then the flurries began again for a bit, Sharon reported.

By evening on Monday, things had settled back down, but the temperatures began dipping. Sharon headed outdoors again, to capture some geese on the ice and in the small opening of water in the middle of the lake in the fourth photo. I suppose they were happy the snow had stopped again, too. The last photo is my favorite. Sharon said she walked over to this small cove on Little Lake, to see what was happening there. What a beautiful scene, with the sun already out of sight, but still coloring the horizon with a bright hue. I guess if winter has to keep visiting us here UP North, into April, we can at least be thankful for the beauty it creates.

Winter. . . The gift that keeps on giving.
Those are much hardier geese than the ones
around here in Northern Illinois. Interesting
that every flock of geese I've recently
observed in flight were all flying South?

On a different, nostalgic note I ran across
this group of very high quality photos from the
turn of the 19th century. They are mostly from
large cities, many of trains.

But scroll down to the 25th one for an
interesting surprise from Houghton.

Some great pastoral scenes this morning. These days the only sunrises I see are the ones depicted on these pages. Thanks for sharing them.

The first, third, and last photos would make nice Christmas cards. ; > )

We were feeling very put-upon downstate because we had an inch to a dusting of snow between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. I guess we have nothing to whine about, in comparison.

D.A., those are some awesome photos and the clarity is spectacular! Thank you for posting that link. Was surprised to see the amount of air pollution visible in a lot of those photos.....that sure went on for a long time until the environmentalists (thankfully) came into the "picture", so to speak.

Spring snows will just make the waterfall season
longer...

For snow lovers I guess 8 months of winter is a good thing. Seems to me that back in the good old days (before global warming) it wasn't like this?

Very interesting pix, D.A! Many of MI and a few from my hometown...Detroit.
Someone spent some time cleaning them up a bit.

April Winter weather, but still beautiful.

The photos are all eerily beautiful.

Very beautiful sun shots. It looks like it should be December or January! I agree with Daveofmohawk.
