Here in the Keweenaw, if you're hoping to raise chickens, then it's time now to be starting out your chicks. That's exactly what Ashlee Harvey and her family are doing. They went to Tractor Supply and picked out the baby chicks they wanted, transported them home and set them up in their home sweet cardboard home, until warmer weather and more feathers develop, then they'll go outside to peck and scratch.

They sure look like they're enjoying their new home and all the attention they're getting, especially when it's time to clean out their living quarters, that's when they all get snuggled in the basket in photo five, for transporting. Check out the wing feathers beginning in the sixth photo. It won't be long and they'll be covered in feathers instead of fluff. Ashlee's son is a lucky young man, getting to hold and raise these funny little birds. Perhaps we'll see pictures of them later in the summer, all grown up and strutting around their yard, but in the meantime, Ashlee took a video of them chirping and peeping in their new digs. Sit back and have a look at these fluffy critters in action.

As a bonus shot and totally unrelated to chickens, I scrounged up some clover to celebrate today's holiday, compliments of Susanne Anderson. We couldn't let the day go by and not wish you a Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Cute little peepers! Chick Days are going on here
in Iowa too!

Cool pix of cute chicks! They always remind me of when I was a kid and my father knew a man who worked in the reptile house at The Detroit Zoo. One time when visiting the zoo, we ran into him and he took us into the back area, behind the exhibits. There was an area there full of chicks and who were they for? You guessed it...the snakes. I must say, it was a Polaroid moment.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, March 17, 2016 - 12:01 pm:

Well that's sad, Alex. They should just
get rid of the snakes. They're disgusting
creatures.

Deb:

Maybe Ashlee will check back with us in about 6
months with some nice pictures of the delicious
fried chicken at their Labor Day picnic.

I know it sounds cold hearted, but I learned a valuable life lesson that day, always take extra rolls of film when viewing multiple feedings.
