I'm guessing here, as I didn't get a chance to ask Judy Byykkonen which park on Lake Superior's north shore this is, but I'm thinking Calumet Waterworks, a.k.a Bucky's. No matter which park this is, you can see how the ice is still a ways out there into the Lake, but it's breaking up into many smaller ice floes.

Several of Judy's photos of the ice there, remind me of popcorn or maybe cottage cheese, since they're kind of lumpy and bumpy looking. I actually have two favorites today, the third and fourth shots. I like the third one because of the gleam on the slippery looking snow mound. And the fourth one I just love the various colors of the water against the white, lumpy ice floes.

In the last photo, you can see the beach is starting to emerge from its winter cover, exposing some of the items that have been strewn ashore during the winter storms. It looks like there will be some decent drift wood there for summer campfires. Lake Superior always seems to provide what we need for summer fun on her shores.

Very cool pics and great descriptions! Certainly a different Winter than the last couple.

If I remember my geography right Ontario is on the north Shore of Lake Superior. Minnesota on the northwest shore and the U.P. and Wisconsin on the south shore. Has the compass changed since I was in school? :-)

Mary says: Perhaps I should have said the northwest shore of the Keweenaw? Would that have been more accurate? Everyone's a critic. :-)

They are all very nice pictures of the coming of spring. I like the last one best though, simply because I like to see soil finally. I only like to look at snow for so long.....say 10 minutes or so.

Winter's closing hurrah.

Just playin with ya Mary. I knew exactly what you meant. No offence intended. :-)

Mary says: No offense taken, Richard J. (Dick fl). I knew you were playin' with me and I couldn't resist playin' back at you! ;-)

...and you forgot "Rice Cakes". :-)
This has been a pleasant winter, I didn't fall once.

Nice review, BTW...2000 has always been a favorite.

Really nice pictures. Hopefully, this early
breakup means the water will warm up a little more
this year. Not that it ever stops us from going
in, providing the wind is blowing in off the lake.
But warmer would be better.

Sure like seeing the gas prices in 1998. I
thought we'd stay down there longer than we did
this time, but out here gas prices are up to $1.99
again. Sigh!!

Happy Sunday, everybody!
