The Jackpine 30 Dogsled races were held in Gwinn over the weekend and Sharon Bodenus photographer at Unique Photography was on hand to capture some of the action for us, some still shots and a bonus video, too!

Of note with the photos Sharon shared with us today, the first two shots are of a musher and her team that you'll get to see starting the race in the video clip above, which is pretty neat being right there in the thick of it.

The background for the 5th and 6th photos goes like this: Sharon was standing there photographing the teams as they passed by, but these dogs took an interest in Sharon and stopped to say hi! She said she was quite worried that she had messed things up for the musher, but when she saw his big smile she knew it was going to be OK. She said he was awesome about the "pitstop", saying that the dogs had been distracted the whole race and it was a great learning opportunity…for them and him. He even posted on her Facebook page that it was nice chatting with her, so no harm done, just awesome photos snapped!

Sharon's last photo was one of the many spectators at the event and perhaps one of the best looking ones, too. She titled this shot:
"I may not be a sled dog, but I am beautiful in every other way!" I totally agree…

Make sure to watch the video Sharon shot of the event to get a feel for being right there in the midst of all the excitement.

Outstanding pictures and video Sharon. Thanks for sharing them with us folks that didn't challenge the cold temperatures.

Hi
I was cross-country skiing in the northern lower peninsula last weekend (Cheboygan on Saturday, Grayling on Sunday). It was sunny and not too windy, especially since I skiied in the woods, so I was comfortable. Standing still viewing the race would have been much colder, so hats off to those who did. Still, sunshine makes up for a lot.

Being a dog lover,I enjoyed each photo! I think
mushing must be a blast!

I agree the spectator dog is the most beautiful dog. Australian Shepherds, "Aussies", are awesome dogs and owning a mini Aussie I know that to be so true! :)

Notice how the dogs are smiling as they run. They must love it!

People think it's cruel to do this to
these dogs, but they love it. Some day
we'll make it to one of these. Fun
pictures and beautiful dogs.

Nice pictures.

I always thought sled dogs wore protective
booties. It must depend on a variety of things.

One day, when the world is Topsy-Turvy, the dogs will make us run, while they sip on Coronas with their expanding waistlines and their doggie incontinence issues.

I SEE NO BOOTS ON SOME DOGS ?? WHY--THERE SHOULD BE

Thank you Mary (Pasty Central) for sharing my photos and writing such a nice and creative post!!
Born and raised a Yooper, I am honored to share with others the beauty I see around me by sharing my photography. :-)
The Jackpine 30 event is just one of the fun things to do here in Upper Michigan! So many wonderful people to meet and photograph as Andrew and his dog team. :-)

Thank you again Mary for all you do to share with others, the beauty that we photographers are able to capture and share with others through this wonderful thing they call,
Photography!!! :-)
