A sunny outing to the tip of the Keweenaw. Joy Ziemnick and her hubby, Jim took advantage of our spring-like weekend weather and headed UP to Copper Harbor for a look at the ice there. Unusual that the Harbor isn't completely iced in by now, but it surely has some thickly iced shores, as evidenced in Joy's photos. She even found an ice volcano or spout. These things always amaze me that the water is splashing and moving so much under the ice that it keeps spraying out of the middle and doesn't let it freeze over. It's something to see when Superior is rocking and the water is shooting out of those spouts.

The sixth picture is what Jim kept himself occupied with, while Joy was busy snapping photos. He made a snowman creation to watch over the Copper Harbor Lighthouse and Harbor. Looks like that snowman may have been working out, too…he has some beefy looking arms there.

Joy's last two photos were taken at Esrey Park on their way back from the Harbor. She likened the lone tree in the first of those two shots to a Palm Tree with its branches all toward the top. Joy dubbed it a Copper Country Palm Tree. I like that, so from now on when I stop there on a Harbor run or for a picnic with our grandkids, that's what it will be... our own tropical Esrey tree.

It doesn't get any better than this! Thanks for the great pictures, making me long for the UP!

Wintry and cold, but still scenic and attractive.

Amazing that the harbor, and more of Superior for that matter, hasn't iced over and it's already early February. I thought we were having it mild only here in the northeast but I guess not. Makes for a faster spring, anyway!

Copper Country Palm Tree reminded me instantly of Tom
Thomson's "The West Wind". Beautiful photos, Joy,
thanks so much for sharing!
