When Halli Lindley and her fellow horseback riding friends saw the sun shining brightly on this fall day, they decided that even though the air was brisk and chilly, a ride was in order. So they saddled up and away they went down country roads, in the mown fields, just enjoying the day and each other's company along the way. Most of the leaves were down by then, but there was still a tree here and there with some color holding on.

I mentioned that the ladies "saddled" their horses, but actually there was one rider that didn't. The lady in the fifth photo made the entire ride bareback and without a bridle and reins to steer the horse in the direction she wanted it to go. Pretty amazing, I think and I'm assuming she must know her horse well and it knows her, that she can communicate where and when to turn to stay with the rest of the riders.

It certainly looked like a perfect fall day these riders took advantage of, with the sky so blue and just a few clouds floating by. If it wasn't for the absence of leaves on the trees and the long sleeve attire on the ladies, you'd almost think it was a beautiful summer day! The beauty of the U.P. transcends all seasons.

FOOTNOTE: Yesterday's shots from Henry Sakari were pretty interesting. If you missed them, just click here: Wednesday, November 4th, to take a look at them!

I love these horseback rides with Halli and her friends. What a great and gorgeous day for such an outing.

Nice outing and a beautiful day for it.

My 7 year old granddaughter has just discovered a
love for horses and wants lessons, so she'd
absolutely love these pictures.

My daughter took lessons riding bareback on an adopted wild Mustang. You can steer them by squeezing either leg into the horses side.
Nice shots!!

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, November 5, 2015 - 03:31 pm:

When Michelle was showing her horse in western pleasure she only used leg pressure on Tia to guide her through what the judge asked for. Hand-rein contact was considered a fault. Tia rides by voice as well, ask her to walk she will walk, trot she trots, lope she lopes, back and she backs.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, November 5, 2015 - 03:38 pm:

Hand-rein contact in western pleasure riding is meant by visible hand action as in hands pulling back on the reins to stop or making turns. Tia will do either a 180 or a 360 all by Michelle's leg pressure. Makes for shapely legs!

Sounds good, but can she open the refrigerator door and fetch a Stroh's like Alex the Dog? :-)

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, November 5, 2015 - 04:14 pm:

Only if the beer is for her.

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Thursday, November 5, 2015 - 08:06 pm:

Now that's my kind of mount.

By Donna (Donna) on Thursday, November 5, 2015 - 08:55 pm:

Awesome pics! I bet the ride was incredible!

By Uncle Chuck (Unclechuck) on Thursday, November 5, 2015 - 10:08 pm:

Nice Pix!

Pick it up Alex, we don't want the Bloke's to know we been here!! (Old Stroh's commercial)

By Greta Jones (Urbanescapees) on Thursday, November 5, 2015 - 10:28 pm:

Yes, Janie T, after I typed my comment, as an afterthought I should have added that indeed it is a great leg exercise and makes for shapely legs!

Fun. I wouldn't mind getting back into horseback riding.
