It is that time of year, when the leaves begin to brighten the landscape here in the Keweenaw. It has been slower coming this year, partly due to a somewhat balmy September I'm guessing, but the leaves have begun their transformation now. Melanie Hakala Rossi and her friend David did some riding of the trails up to the northern end of the Keweenaw to check things out and found some color along the way.

That first shot is a favorite swamp of Melanie's and you can plainly see why…it looks so serene and peaceful, the sort of place that calms a person from the inside, out. The next shot with a splash of color on the shore is near Keystone Bay. In the third photo you see already fallen leaves mixed in with the rocks and driftwood on Superior's shoreline.

Then Melanie spotted a tree that had really popped with bright red leaves making it stand out from the rest of the crowd. Beautiful! And amidst all this exploring, you still have to eat, even when you're on the trail and nowhere near a restaurant. That's when you plan ahead and pack your dining room and kitchen along with you and dine in the woods. What a great way to spend a beautiful fall day in the Keweenaw. Melanie and David sure know how to live!

Great to see the fall colors and the calm water waiting for the
"Gales of November ".

Oh so relaxing, the Superior way!

Great fall pictures. The first one would make a nice picture puzzle. While I love the fall colors, the death of summer saddens me. The prognosticators say this year's El Nino portends a softer winter for us. I, for one, hope that is true.

While I wouldn't wish "snowpocalypse" on anyone, I do hope it is at least an average Keweenaw winter; I want to see nice snow statues when I'm UP for Winter Carnival in 4 months......

Nice photos this morning!! The area around Keystone Bay has always been one of my favourite spots, especially this time of year.

How beautiful! There has been a lot of changes
since we were up there two weeks ago. The color
was just starting then. Wonderful photos!!!

FABULOUS!!!

Great Autumn pictures! The picture of the rocks made me wonder whatever happened to the guy who found the 90+ pound petoskey stone. Seemed like the DNR wasn't going to prosecute him for going over the 25 pound 'rock limit' for the year.

Beautiful Autumn colors, especially the first one.

Sniff.

By James W. Hird (Wvyooper) on Friday, October 2, 2015 - 09:30 pm:

Favorite SWAMP? Well I guess Yoopers and alligators have something in common. Just kidding! It is a pretty place even if it is a swamp.
As for the 90 pound Petoskey. Looked and found it on the web but nothing about the out come of the DNR investigation. From the looks of the picture it is not all Petoskey stone. Has lots of matrix attached so maybe he got off on a technicality.

By Greta Jones (Urbanescapees) on Saturday, October 3, 2015 - 04:56 pm:

Very very nice!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, October 3, 2015 - 09:16 pm:

Great pictures! Love that first one. Any time I
see a mirrored picture like that, it's mesmerizing
to me. Nicely done!
