Jeff Dennis is always doing something neat with the kids, so I've dubbed their outings the "Dennis Adventures". On this particular adventure, he had his two kids and two of his nephews along, exploring the southern central part of the U.P. and just along the border of Wisconsin, too.

They started out in Crystal Falls, went up to the Iron River area, over to Florence, WI, into Iron Mountain and then back to Crystal Falls. Now that's quite the tour and from today's photos you can see that the kids not only had a good time, but learned about some landmarks in the U.P., too.

They stopped by the Cardiff Iron Mine in Iron River. Saw a small buck along the trail. Snapped a photo near a lake that Jeff did not know the name of, but couldn't get over how green the water looked. Next stop was on the Brule River that borders the U.P. and Wisconsin, with proof that Jeff was along for the ride, too. Then just outside Iron Mountain, they checked out an old railroad bridge over the Menominee River.

It was at about this point, on their way back to the Crystal Falls area, that Jeff told the kids that they had run out of gas... you can see the looks of disbelief in the sixth photo and then like little troupers, they got out to start pushing the Ranger the remaining 13 miles to the nearest place for gas. He sure tricked them and I'm sure they'll laugh about this joke for years to come, probably into their adult lives when they retell stories about adventures with Dad/Uncle Jeff.

It sure is a great way to make memories with your family, exploring the great outdoors here UP North!

There sure are a lot of Brule Rivers. Ron fishes
one in North Central WI in the spring and fall for
steelhead. Then there's one up on the North Shore
of MN also. I didn't know there was one on the
border of MI and WI also.

Sure does look like fun times, even running out of
gas looks like it was fun. Thanks for sharing
these. I love the little buck standing in the
road. So cute. Love the green lake, as well as
both bridge pictures. Great shots!!

ATVing & snowmobiling are two ways of really seeing the U.P. countryside!

Family, that's what makes life!! And a little fun thrown in just adds so much to it.
Thanks, Jeff.

Great pictures of a wonderful family outing. It's nice to see the youngsters enjoying something that doesn't involve ipods or x boxes.
Deb: Etienne Brule was the first European to explore the Great Lakes area. Thus, there are a lot of things named in his honor. I just happen to know this because I wrote a paper on him in 7th grade history. Sometimes I think that was not to long after he got here:)

If they really ran out of gas they would have definitely remembered the trip and the 13 mile push. Dad/Uncle Jeff would never live it down.
