According to Pete's Petting Zoo's Facebook page, they are a "unique non-profit. Its residents are primarily rescued animals of all kinds from throughout the UP and even further. There is never a charge." I have to say, until I saw these photos from Holly Leivdal and her family's visit there, I didn't even know the zoo existed and they've actually been there caring for the animals since 2008.

It looks like Holly's boys were enjoying all the animals and I think the feeling was mutual, because the animals sure seem to be loving the attention from the boys, too. How great is it that Pete's is right here UP North in Baraga, located on US 41, so it's not hard to find. If like me, you haven't been there yet, make sure to put it on your "to do" list for a fun and educational time with your kids or grandkids.

FOOTNOTE: Yesterday's shots from Melanie Hakala Rossi, showed a packed Eagle River beach. If you missed them, just click here: Wednesday, July 29th, to take a look at them!

I love deer. They are so beautiful! And the
llama reminds me of our good pasty friend,
llamamama. How she loved her llamas. We still
miss her humor. She cracked us up.

Have a great day, everybody!

Ahhh, such sweet photos, Holly, thank you for sharing this fun time with your boys!

These pix are the coolest and the llama looks like its thinking: Sheep up or sheep out!

By Kenty (Dashamo) on Thursday, July 30, 2015 - 02:23 pm:

Yesterday's pics look more like Eagle River Beach.

Mary says: Thanks for catching that! I typed it in a hurry and my fingers typed Harbor while my brain was thinking River. ;-)
I fixed it in my notes now.

"Friendly Llama":

A friendly llama would be much better than a spitting llama! From Wikipedia Llama:

Quote:

"Llamas which are well-socialized and trained to halter and lead after weaning are very friendly and pleasant to be around. They are extremely curious and most will approach people easily. However, llamas that are bottle-fed or over-socialized and over-handled as youth will become extremely difficult to handle when mature, when they will begin to treat humans as they treat each other, which is characterized by bouts of spitting, kicking and neck wrestling. Anyone having to bottle-feed a cria should keep contact to a minimum and stop as soon as possible.

[However] When correctly reared, llamas spitting at a human is a rare thing. …"

I just love all the animal pics. I may have to go to
the petting zoo one day.

Someone told me it's all happening at the Soo!
Oops...wrong floor.

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Thursday, July 30, 2015 - 10:19 pm:

I'd seen this zoo before as I whizzed by! Wish I knew about all these animals a week or so ago when I had a couple granddaughters with me for the Aura Jamboree! Next time! I had no idea it was a non-profit that could use our help!
