On a recent trip to Mackinac Island, Sherri Juntikka made the rounds, starting on the main street, lined with bicycles and horse drawn carriages/taxis passing by. She made a stop in one of the fudge shops and watched while the fudge was being prepared. I wonder if she tasted any samples while there? After that, she did a little touring, finding the Courthouse and Police Station, sporting a unique looking cupola on the roof. Next stop was the Little Stone Church, which is a Congregational Parish on the Island. Sherri then hopped on a bicycle and headed to Arch Rock, climbing up the 207 steps on the Spring Trail to the top. That's quite the elevation change, but Arch Rock itself and the view from the observation platform up there, make it well worth the climb.

The last two photos are the standard "musts" in the Straits area, whether you visit the Island or not, you always see the ferry boats coming back and forth, with the Star Line standing out because of the "rooster tail" spray that follows the boat. And, last but not least, the Big Mac itself. Only Sherri gives us a different view from down underneath as the ferry boat drew near. She said the water is 300 feet deep at this point. Lakes Huron and Michigan converge right about here, with the Mackinac Bridge dividing them, while connecting the U.P. and the Lower Peninsula. Pure Michigan!

Great pictures. I particularly enjoyed the picture of the little stone church. Someone did some very nice work there. Mackinac Island is one of those places that I never tire of.

Love that Island!! Thank you, Sherri, for sharing your photos, especially for those of us who can no longer make that trip.:)

Thanks for mini-vacation...every pic says "Summer".

By Janice A. Dow (Dowj) on Saturday, July 25, 2015 - 05:12 pm:

thing is, the Rooster Tail is the signature of a Star Line boat.

Mary says: You're absolutely correct, Janice (and Shirley)..my mistake. Thank you for catching that. I've corrected that in my notes now, but don't have access to change it on the photo.
Guess this means it's been way too long since I visited the Island...time to head there again. ;-)

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Sunday, July 26, 2015 - 07:11 pm:

That's what I thought, Janice. Back when we were vacationing up there, we stayed at a hotel near the Star Line dock and we'd sit on the balcony and watch the ferries with their rooster tails.;)

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Monday, July 27, 2015 - 08:49 am:

Wish I could go with you, Mary.:)

BTW, we never took the Star Line ferries, always went by Arnold's big 'cats'.:-O
