Jeremy Rowe, of Keweenaw Night Sky Photography, was up late Saturday and Sunday nights to capture the Northern Lights in action over a still icy covered Lake Superior shoreline and has this to say about his night-time photography shoot:

"First three shots are from Saturday night and the last one was from Sunday night. I got to my first spot on Saturday and realized I had forgotten my tripod... kind of an important element. So I had to be creative and prop my camera up using a pair of gloves. The second photo, due to lack of a tripod, actually came out unique because I lit up the ice with my light facing down into it. It ended up diffusing the light and making the ice glow its turquoise color. The third shot has streaks of blue because my mini huskies were not listening and wouldn't stay out of the shot (they had glow sticks on their collars). The pink shot was from Sunday, which was a 30 minute window before it got cloudy, so luckily I stayed close to home and got a couple shots."

We here at Pasty Central are always glad that there are photographers who go the extra mile to get the outstanding photos they share with us on these pages. Throughout the years we've been here on the World Wide Web, there have been so many of you that do just that... thank you all, for snapping and sharing so freely like you do!

Very cool...the next best thing to seeing them in person!

By Eric Pohl (Ericmtu) on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 - 07:55 am:

I went down to the Portage behind Tech last night.
It was so beautiful. It was one of the most
amazing things I ever seen in my life.

Last night, Tuesday, I drove to the Breakers (Stanton Twnship Park)to the end of the road. 10 cars were there when I arrived around 10:15. 21 cars were there when I left around 11:15 and on my return trip on the Canal Rd. I passed 1 motorcycle and 49 cars. I think the word got out to Tech and the students were streaming out. Good for them. I learned of the lights when my son called me from Traverse City-- he was at the Old Mission Peninsula (and experienced the same thing with cars streaming by). These lights are the first big show I've seen from this area in over 25 years.

Very nice photos!

Beautiful! I love them all, but especially the
first one :-) Thanks for sharing those!

The Northern lights are an awesome sight. Thanks so much for sharing. Not being able to see them live is the only sacrifice that people living in the warm climates make in order to live there. I haven't seen them in some time. Solely because of a lack of effort on my part. Not because I have been warm.

Beautiful photos, but really love the last one.

Thanks, Jeremy!

Seeing the Northern Lights is still on my Bucket
List. Last September when we were in the Keweenaw,
there was a good chance of them during our last
night there, but all of a sudden, the clouds came
in and that was that! I hate to think that it could
have happened the moment I fell off to sleep. Oh
well, I'm going to try again this year. Those
photos are beautiful!!!

I can only imagine what the Aurora Borealis must look like from the International Space Station.

Very nice! Still need to make a U.P. Run just to " Blow the stink off!" as GN would have said, but I'm stuck in the city, the city where they make the cars!

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 - 06:02 pm:

Thank you!!

How lucky the folks were who could cut bait and run out to Superior and see the Lights! I'm jealous!

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 - 06:05 pm:

Deb--it's sure hard to pick a favorite with such beautiful photos,
but I'm with you on your choice because of the trees.

Uncle Chuck--I feel for you. Please say "hi" to your Uncle Rudy for
my father and me. Thanks.

The Northern Lights are great 2 c from the Keweenaw. Thanks 4 sharing.

By Mel, MN (Mehollop) on Thursday, March 19, 2015 - 02:03 pm:

The last time I viewed the lights from Breakers was late October in '99 or '00... was an incredible night, I think I was the only one out there... and I spent the next few weeks with pneumonia, and a few years recovering from the asthma that resulted. Never lay on cold/damp stamp sands without appropriate insulation.

By Brenda Leigh (Brownmoose) on Friday, March 20, 2015 - 08:00 am:

Absolutely breath taking photos. It is a captivating
wonder of nature to see them. Over east here it was a
spectacular show as well. You have to really give
those photographers credit for their SISU in
capturing them. It takes a lot of fortitude to haul
that equipment around in the cold in the dark.

By Just me (Jaby) on Friday, March 20, 2015 - 11:25 am:

spectacular photos!!!

By Tom Palermo (Tomee) on Friday, March 20, 2015 - 12:07 pm:

I need to stop being so lazy on vacation and get up early to try to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights!
