Last week, Nathan Miller and a group of friends headed to the Munising area for a look at the Grand Island Ice Caves. Most people look at them from the ground and can then go inside, but not Nathan, he views them with his Aerial Kite Photography and then relies on his friends to share the inside with him.

The following is what Nathan had to say about this high-flying adventure:

The first two shots are of the ice caves on Grand Island, as seen from my kite. Quite the view from up here! In the second photo you can see a guy climbing the ice formation. I was lucky to get this shot, as my kite was struggling in the winds and I needed to bring it down before it broke.

The next is an aerial shot of the Grand Island East Channel Light. We hiked out across the bay from Sand Point to get to the lighthouse, which was a well-traveled route by both hikers and snowmobiles. We did see a few slushy spots but otherwise it was safe. It was a great day to fly my kite and I got the shot I wanted of the lighthouse!

That is the Marquette Harbor Light in the last photo. We stopped there in our travels, just so I could get this shot. It was a little scary flying here - initially I started on the south side of the light, but I kept hearing the ice crack and moan. Too spooky for me, so I climbed up the ice walls (not easy while flying a kite) to get some shots up on the point. Turns out that wasn't the best either... a coast guardsman came out to tell me I wasn't supposed to be there! Oops. It was back on the ice for me. At least I got the shot I wanted!

Overall a successful outing once we got back on the mainland!
Thanks for taking the Pasty Cam along!

I have always had a soft spot in my heart for the Grand Island East Channel Lighthouse.

Great photos once again, Nathan!
Out of curiousity, about how high is the camera when these photos were taken?

I also love the Grand Island Lighthouse, and I've
never seen a shot like that before! Thanks for
sharing that with us, Nathan. The Marquette
Lighthouse is a beautiful lighthouse, too.

Great shots again Nathan. I enjoy seeing a bird's eye view of things. A agree with all that are enamored by the Grand Island East Channel light.
