How Precious Is The Lord’s Steadfast Love!
For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O' death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Cor. 15:53-58
The Apostle Paul, writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, gives us a message of comfort, peace and joy as he shows us the victory over death through our Lord Jesus Christ. Thanking and praising God for His great grace and love toward mankind. Thus in being reminded may we ever rejoice in believing and trusting in the Lord God Almighty, for we know, “His mercy endures forever!”
The Bible exhorts us to remain steadfast as verse 58 above teaches (please read that again). Also Peter has written: “8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 9Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. 1 Peter 5:8-9
Sometimes we take our faith lightly and may easily become lax in our diligence in prayer, our words and deeds. We are therefore cautioned to remain steadfast in the faith and in the worship of the Lord.
What does steadfast (also spelled stedfast) mean? Firm and unwavering in purpose, loyalty, or resolve, firmly fixed, constant
(Note: The KJV often uses loving-kindness or mercy in many places when referring to God’s steadfast faithfulness to His Word and Promises. Loving-kindness means: tender compassion!)
King David wrote Psalm 36 as a Song for the Chief Musician to bring before the people. The message is; “How Precious Is The Lord’s Steadfast Love!” In it he compares the ways for the wicked and the ways of the ‘children of men’ who put their trust in the Lord. The emphasis is upon the steadfast ways of the Lord that we can depend upon. I have included below verses 5-10 in both the KJV and the ESV (English Standard Version) for your comparison. (Please read the entire Psalm in your Bible.)
