Keweenaw Krayons to hold art auction, rummage sale

Keweenaw Krayons' Ramblin' Rose logo is just one example of children's art on display at the Ramblin' Rose Arts Center in Mohawk ’Äì which will be the scene of a silent art auction, art and rummage sale from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 26.

MOHAWK ’Äì Keweenaw Krayons will hold a silent art auction with a combined art, rummage and bake sale from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 26, at the Ramblin’Äô Rose Arts Center (next to the Mohawk Superette). The auction will include children’Äôs art and art donated by local artists and the community.

More than 25 artists, individuals and businesses have donated to both the art auction and rummage sale.

Keweenaw Krayons’Äô Director Carol Rose said the sale will help match grants that keep programs going and will also give the community a chance to drop in to see what is happening in the ever-expanding Ramblin’Äô Rose Arts Center, find some good bargains and have some fun!

’ÄúThe donations and the outpouring of community support are overwhelming,’Äù Rose added.

Keweenaw Krayons’Äô After-School Artist Supervisor Sue Fouts of Mohawk is voluntarily organizing the rummage sale, while Stained Glass Artist Karen Bell-Hanson is overseeing the auction. The Aid for Association for Lutherans #487 and the Bethany Lutheran Church are assisting in matching funds and preparations for the rummage sale.

The art includes such items as an acrylic rose painting; a watercolor cat by Clyde Mikkola; a turtle-shell rattle by Drumweaver, Len Novak; paintings by Martha Speer; youth's handmade clay pots and watercolors; and many more creations by local artists. Rummage sale items include some antiques; color TVs and a chair; household items; and clothes for every age, occasion and season.

Hot, free coffee and tea will be ready for early shoppers, along with goodies to buy from the bake sale. The staff at Keweenaw Krayons ask you to put Saturday’Äôs sale as the first on your rummage sale stops and keep Keweenaw arts alive.
