"The northernmost part of Michigan must be ready for more arts  because the response so far to the scheduled Keweenaw Arts Alive events has been  wonderful," said Keweenaw County Arts Coordinator Darlene Basto.

All the  events are made possible with a $7,000 matching grant awarded recently by the  Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, Rural Arts Initiative and by an  outpouring of community support. The grant is being matched by community support  of $3,500 cash and and $3,500 in-kind donations, for a total value of $14,000.  The grant was obtained by Keweenaw residents and business owners, with the  assistance of the Hancock Community Arts Center's Susan Burack, Michigan  Association of Community Arts Agencies' Upper Peninsula/Rural Arts  Coordinator.
