Among the dozens of shots we received this week here at Pasty Central, these 3 had in common a smooth surface for a colorful fall backdrop. Thanks to Zman, R.C., and Mary for sending them our way (...which is always welcome at photos@pasty.com).

And thanks also to about 150 others so far who have voted their favorite U.P. scenes for the upcoming Pasty Cam 2003 Color Calendar. When you have a few moments to browse the Archives, tell us your favorites.

Charlie, Which picture has received the most votes? How many shots can you vote for?

By Kathi, Detroit factory rat on Saturday, October 12, 2002 - 09:41 am:

All three of these pictures are absolutely GORGEOUS! I want to move up there more and more, each time I see a shot (or three) like today's!

Ahhhhhhhhhh....at last......U.P. Color! Many

i just love this time of year, all the colors and the fresh air, getting ready for a long hard winter. makes mornings worth it, just getting up to see the trees changing colors, and that morning coffee in hand.. just so wonderful. i used to swim out bootjack as a child. makes me look back and just remember all the fun times i had in my life. simple times. the world changes so much from year to year, even week to week. all you can do is look back and remember the good times. did you see snow for the next 3 days!!! time to put my summer toys away.. i just cut my grass yesterday. to everyone out there look back at all the good childhood memeories from time to time.. and smile.. have a wonderful day..

TRIPLE WOW!!! AWESOME!!! Such gorgeous scenes of God's Country. Thanks to the photographers for sharing the beauty with us. With so many difficulties in our world, it is comforting to know there is still a peaceful and gentle place on this earth. Brings back many precious childhood memories of growing up in the Copper Country (Houghton) in the 50's and 60's. I don't think we knew how great we had it. We didn't have much materially (which didn't concern us because we didn't even realize it) -- but we were truly rich in the things that matter most. For that I am eternally grateful.

RD,

The first 12 pics from any email address are counted toward the tally of the calendar votes. The shot which has received the most votes so far is Steve Brimm's kayak view from September 7. The photographer who has been most often selected this year is Dan Urbanski, for a number of his Pasty Cam shots. This is going to be the best calendar we have ever assembled, and someone has suggested we include a companion screen saver CD with ALL the choices.

Where is the top picture taken? It looks like any typical U.P. pond, but reminds me of the one behind Albion location in Calumet, going north on the snowmobile trail. Beautiful colors and beaver hut!

By Greta, Ca on Saturday, October 12, 2002 - 03:17 pm:

Is that pile of sticks a beaver dam in the top pic?? These photos are truly beautiful. We thought we'd make it back home this fall, but circumstances didn't allow it. So I thank eveyone involved in these beautiful shots, and everyday glimpses of the beauty up there to take me home virtually, for now.

WOW,WOW, and WOW. Such gorgeous shots. Some years we here in WI have fall colors that would rival the Yoop and New England, but this year we seem to be getting yellow and brown. Thanks for the pictures that remind us of the beauty of fall. Maybe when I retire in a gazillion years I can get back up there during the color season.

By The Z-Man, Ontonagon,Mi on Saturday, October 12, 2002 - 07:35 pm:

The beaver pond picture was taken just off of M-38
a few miles west of Nisula and just before forest
highway 16.

I've been seeing these for 60 years now and I swear they are just as beautiful as they have ever been. Never get tired of the beauty of Northern Michigan.

By EM, Mi on Saturday, October 12, 2002 - 10:26 pm:

Fall is my favorite time of the year. Never could understand when people say I just hate to think of whats coming next. Well,
don't think about it, just enjoy the beauty of the moment. Great pictures. They do provide beautiful moments!! Wish we could bottle it.

By Charlotte, Mishawaka, IN on Saturday, October 12, 2002 - 11:09 pm:

After spending the day looking for fall colors here in IN these beat anything I saw or hope to see in IN. Green is the color most viewed today. Thanks for the great shots.

I guess I need to get busy and send my choices in for the calendar...:)

By Gina, Lansing on Sunday, October 13, 2002 - 04:17 pm:

Thanks for showing the foliage color...there are many fellow trolls from this area who are making a trip up for the fall color, and we look every day at the CAM for an update! 'Makes me homesick.

By Mike B, Pittsburgh, wishin I was still in the Yoop on Monday, October 14, 2002 - 12:03 pm:

ZMan, that pic looks just like a spot where I used to bird hunt. There's an old railroad grade that runs behind Peanut Pit near Crystal Falls. The beavers dam up the creek there every year and it floods the whole plains.

You know, there are probably thousands of areas around the U.P that look just like that. Amazing really. You just gotta love that place.

By Piffer,S IA on Wednesday, October 16, 2002 - 09:33 pm:

I just found your sight and will check it every morning for the beautiful pictures. We haven't been to the UP for three years and we really miss it. Thanks for having such a great sight!

By Dan, California on Thursday, October 17, 2002 - 02:01 pm:

Pasty.com has some awesome photos! I miss the Copper Country, and the U.P. very much. I recently had the opportunity to visit my home in Toivola, with my wife. She fell in love with the place, and we will return as often as we can. God truly did a work of art in the Upper Penninsula. It's beauty is there for all to appreciate. Thanks for the great photos!
