Last evening I was walking from the jazz-fest here in Eagle River just as the sky over the Lake exploded into a flaming Grand Finale. By the time I got home, there in our Pasty Cam Photo-Inbox was the top picture by Robert Wetton, almost live. From the other side of the Peninsula, yes, but very much like it was here.

I know it's mid-month, but I couldn't resist sharing a few of the many shots we've received recently. The second one is by another connoisseur of fine sunsets, Bob Gemignani of New Orleans (and sometimes Bootjack). Our third Big Picture of the fishing trip is from Bruce Watters of Bedford, Texas, looking out over Shelter Bay near Munising. WHOA!! I just realized... That's a SUNRISE not a sunset!! Sorry for the wrong caption, Bruce, I see the guys are just beginning the trip.

Finally - (I know this is a sunset) - here's one from 13 year old Caitlin Keturi of Illinois, taken with her digital camera on the family vacation at Redridge last weekend. A budding Pasty Camist if ever I saw one :o)

Ahhh...

By Lyn R. on Wednesday, August 14, 2002 - 08:33 am:

Good Morning

The BIG picture page has the correct date, but if you go back to the small picture the day and date are incorrect. There are two Monday the 12ths.

By Charlie at Pasty Central on Wednesday, August 14, 2002 - 08:58 am:

Thanks for the heads-up Lyn. We just fixed it.

By Caitlin, Illinois on Wednesday, August 14, 2002 - 09:22 am:

I am so happy right now, considering it's only 8:20 in the morning. THANK YOU CHARLIE! You rock! I didn't think my pic would get on the site because it was too small. That was taken...August 9th I think-our last day in Redridge, till next year!

:o) Thank you thank you thank you Charlie!

By Toivo from Toivola on Wednesday, August 14, 2002 - 09:39 am:

Charlie - - 2 mistakes in one day! That's some kind of record for you. You need a vacation, guy. Why don't you take a couple weeks off of Pasty Cam [after Jon-boy's wedding this Saturday, of course]. I just spent a month in the woods, and its' great to get away for awhile.
Show me how to upload the daily pictures and I'll cover your shift til the end of August. Deal?

By Sherry in FL on Wednesday, August 14, 2002 - 09:48 am:

These are some of the best sunset/sunrise pictures I have ever seen. Thanks for sharing the beauty of the UP as I am not able to visit there as often as I would like to.

By EM, Mi on Wednesday, August 14, 2002 - 09:58 am:

I agree with Caitlin Charlie-You Rock. The Sunset For Two is my way of thinking.:o)

By TL, South Carolina on Wednesday, August 14, 2002 - 10:17 am:

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm speechless!

By Paul , Hancock on Wednesday, August 14, 2002 - 12:19 pm:

Sunset is my second favorite time of day (early morning being the favorite. Actually I enjoy the nights more then anything but I'm sure no one really cares about that). Excellant picture selection Charlie! Keep 'em comin'!

PS. See you Saturday!

By Jan....Wisc. on Wednesday, August 14, 2002 - 01:23 pm:

You went and did it again....just when you think
you have seen the best...along comes another great shot...THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES...

By Doug Ritter on Wednesday, August 14, 2002 - 01:34 pm:

Today's pictures reminded me a of a couple of UP sunsets I've captured over the years. ...of course, how could you NOT take a good picture of one of those magnificent Keweenaw sunsets?

In the pines

Charlie at Pasty Central on Wednesday, August 14, 2002 - 01:46 pm:

Doug,

That shot must have been taken at the turnout down Five Mile Point Road, where Jonathan and I often walk and discuss plans and progress of the Internet pasty project. By the way, the second shot you emailed: I wonder if you have a higher resolution of it? Would be a fitting end-of-month tribute photo.

Toivo,

Such a deal! You would handle the Cam for a while and let me spend the rest of August in the woods? Let's find some time in the next few days for a crash course in being Pasty Cam editor, and you're on.

By Lyn on Wednesday, August 14, 2002 - 02:14 pm:

I can tell Charlie is a man that makes very few mistakes. He seems to be a perfectionist and that is why I notify him if I see any errors. Toivo is going to have his work cut out for him when he takes over his job. As they say above Charlie ROCKS.

Everyone at Pasty.net deserves so much recognition for making this site such a success and delivering the best of pictures from the most beautiful place in the world. I, like many others tune in bright and early to get my "pasty fix" for the day.

By Melissa, Grand Ledge, MI on Wednesday, August 14, 2002 - 03:45 pm:

Only eight more days until I can head north and view a gorgeous sunset for myself! I can't wait.

I second Lyn's kudos to Charlie and the gang. I love having a daily glimpse of the Keweenaw.

By Beverly, Mississippi on Wednesday, August 14, 2002 - 04:15 pm:

All the sunsets and sunrises are beautiful. I can't believe Caitlin's, and she is only 13. The only thing to spoil it is Toivo mentioning he just spent A MONTH IN THE WOODS! Arrgh! I am so jealous. What with the heat and the humidity and the West Nile Virus, I am a prisoner in my own home. With a second grader no less! But, come December, I will have to tell ya'll about the gentle temperatures and the blooming camellias.

By Jean Mi. on Wednesday, August 14, 2002 - 05:28 pm:

Thanks Robert Wetton, when I checked the Eagle Harbor cam this morning there was just a streak of red at the horizon and I was sorry that I had missed what had to have been a great sunset. Twelve hours later what do I find but the sunset that I thought I had missed! Toivo can you do a map of Redridge? I am sure that you would do a great job so that Charlie could have a well deserved vacation.

By Curt B in arizona on Wednesday, August 14, 2002 - 09:23 pm:

Makes me miss the UP even more than I do.

By Toivo from Toivola on Wednesday, August 14, 2002 - 09:34 pm:

Ya' go west from Houghton along the Canal, hack a left at Schmidt Corner, all the way out past Liminga (a lovely drive in the autumn, I might add), then go about that far again, and whah, your at Redridge.

Good one dad! Blazing!

By Ken from da UP on Wednesday, August 14, 2002 - 11:31 pm:

Hei, Toivo, long as everyone is nit-pickin' tonight, I betcha you meant 'you're there' instead of 'your there'. :o) Been a long time since I have been out to Redridge and Freda. Sure do like those maps of yours. Can you find Cornell on it?

RCW, what a shot! 'Course they're all just beautimous!! WOW!

By Sherry, Gulfport MS on Thursday, August 15, 2002 - 10:30 pm:

Just turned the computer on and I recognized that sunset right away! I knew that Dad had taken it even before the name came up! Home is never far away. Wish I could be there, it is just too beautiful! P.S. to Beverly, we are getting our money's worth out of DEEP WOOD'S OFF!

By Claire Keturi, Illinois on Friday, August 16, 2002 - 04:09 pm:

Good photography Caitlin. I recognize that this picture was taken from the yard at our place on the Redridge lakeshore. I see that Claire has seen it too. Will be heading up that way some time next week. Wish you could be there with us as we enjoy your company so much. Oh well, good things must come to an end sometime but you can make up for it again next year.

By Jill Keturi, Illinois on Friday, October 4, 2002 - 08:18 pm:
