I was in the UP last weekend to breath some fresh air and visit with relatives in the Bruce Crossing/Ewen area. A stop at Paulding for some hand-dipped ice cream, and Bond Falls for some eye candy, were needed to make the trip complete. I walked down to the falls and found a view that had to be preserved. My camera was still in the car! No problem......it was a good excuse to get some needed exercise and to stay a bit longer.

I've noticed most photos are of the more dramatic west side, so I thought the east side should get equal time!

By the way..... I'm the son of Bashful Joe, a UP entertainer who some of you "old timers" may remember. I've been thinking of producing a "Best of Joe" CD. Would anyone be interested? Any feedback would be appreciated.

"Bashful Joe" was a little before my time, but shots like this are timeless.

Just one more word: WOW!

Speaking of WOW's... We have something different for last week's wallpaper... It was sooo hard to choose among the shots which appeared each day, we decided instead just to bring a classic Steve Brimm shot of Eagle Harbor Lighthouse against a blazing sunset. Steve has provided it for us in the current Wallpaper of the Week.

WOW !!

Great shot of the falls, Ron. As for releasing the CD, I say go for it. I'm sure some younger folks(myself included) would like to hear some of the older music that really started it all.

Bond Falls looks like a great place to stop for a little break on my way to Houghton. How do I get there from Bruce Crossing?

By Ron Syria, Utica,MI on Friday, August 2, 2002 - 04:04 am:

Uncle Glen,

Bond Falls is a great place to take a break. They have picnic tables and a small curio shop there as well. It's just a beautiful place. The size of the falls may surprise you. It looks a lot smaller in a photo than it really is.

Go south on Highway 45(the only one going south from Bruce Crossing) to Paulding. I'm guessing that it's about 10 miles. You will see a gas station/party store on your left. Take the east-bound road that runs into 45 at the store. In a few minutes, you will come to a dam. Park your vehicle and just follow the signs.

If you are traveling north on 45 from US 2, Paulding is about half way between Watersmeet(the intersection of US 2 and 45)and Bruce Crossing (the intersection of M28 and 45). So, if you're heading North towards Ontonagon it isn't too many minutes out of your way.
