Tobin Harbor through the trees... Mighty cold on the Lake all week. But it was mighty cold on shore all week, too. Isle Royale on this day was wonderful, cool, but the sun was out, thank goodness. Didn't expect or want it to be so cold on the Keweenaw, though we always know it will be in the low 40's on the Lake this time of year. It will turn soon.

Somebody said we could go to vote somewhere for our favorite Michigan web sight. Does anybody know the link?

Nice to see a picture of Tobin Harbor, brings back many memories of the 2 summers I spent there in 1962 & 1963, memories never forgotten. Does anyone have any knowlege of Minong Lodge that allegedly was somewhere in Tobin Harbor before the Gov't took it over. Took many rides to and fro Copper Harbor from there. One of these days I will have to make it a point to go back to the "Island", if guests are still going to be welcomed!

My brothers and I went to the island a few times with the Boy Scouts back in the 60's. Those were wonderful and memorable experiences. My brothers and I are planning to go back this summer with our son's to relive some of our childhood and create some memories. We are really looking forward to it. What a beautiful place, giving us an opportunity to see the hand of God in creation.

Hi Dave. I remember you boys getting ready for those scouting trips to Isle Royale. Don't think Dan ever made it tho. Clarence Monette was the scoutmaster at that time. He did alot with his troops. Looking forward to seeing my grandkids when you all get up here. Fun to check out this site and see comments from one of my sons. This was a great picture.

I just got back yesterday from my 5th Isle Royale trip since 1998. One of the best memories I had last week was quietly gliding down Tobin Harbor in a canoe. Just me, the rugged beauty, and the majestic loons. I have found Isle Royale is one of those places that when someone else from Michigan asks me "where's that?", I realize they probably wouldn't understand anyway. Shh...Don't tell anyone about this scarcely attended national park. They might put up an outlet mall.

i don't know too much about cars but can't something be done about pollusion from cars to preserver a place like Island Royal? can't the car makers put something on the tailpipe of a car to get rid of the pollution. let me know if something can be done about this.

Isle Royale Fanatic,
YEP, you bet they would. Did you know that the visitors to Isle Royale in ONE year comes close as to how many visitors Yellow Stone Nat'l Park receives in ONE day!!! This land we live in, here in the Keweenaw is so Majestic. Gods Country....need I say more?

By MK on Monday, June 17, 2002 - 10:18 pm:

Uh Barney,
No cars are allowed on ISLE Royale.....

By Majestic Keweenaw on Monday, June 17, 2002 - 11:08 pm:

Barney,
You might need to contact the BIG three on that dilemma. The only 2 ways to get to Isle Royale is by sea plane or the Isle Royale Queen. Once on the island you have no means oF transportation except to hike. Visit the island one day to see all it has to offer.

If anyone would like more info on the island and an interesting photo essay for first-time visitors, see my personal web site at www.msu.edu/user/kilpela. This is where I have some pages devoted to Isle Royale, America's Emerald Isle.
