Who would have thought, Jan.12 and hardly any snow. All we need is some cold temps and we'll have one heck of an ice rink. (Not that I'd want to see anybody on it!)

HI FROM GA. Are you the Bob Wetton who lived up on the hill in Dollar Bay years ago. If so I lived down the hill by the old R.R. Depot.I think My sister Lorraine went to school with you. Us kids had a lot of fun tobaggoning on Wetton's . Hill. I can't believe there is so little snow. It get pretty cold here but snow is pretty rare-to our disgust!! We are in Ga. but just barely-- close to Chattanooga. We all love the Pasty cam. It's like a visit home.Bye

Hi Fran. You got that partly right, I did attend school with Lorraine and still reside on the hill, however Rob is our eldist. The hill however has grown in and no longer usable for toboggoning.
Regards RCW

Yesterday (Friday) I walked 2 miles along the Houghton Canal Road. Today, at 10am I blew 5 inches of snow off my driveway and there's another 2-3 out there at 7:30 pm. Great base for the ski hill and much needed for Swedetown and Maasto Hiihto. Early this week the weather reminded me of April. Then it has looked very much like the photo. I recall driving up to Mandan to XC ski when bicyclists were pedaling along the road and a few small sailboats were heading out from the marina. Ain't this a great place!

Nice picture of the bridge and Mont Ripley. It's like seeing the Big Mac from the LP when you're on your way back to da UP. Just feels good! We sure are blessed to be able to live UP here. :o)

I REALLY WANT TO KNOW WHO HEIKKI LUNTA IS!?!!?!

By Lou Taylor , Lansing on Sunday, January 13, 2002 - 07:15 pm:

My wife's grandfather had something to do with the building of the bridge. His name was
"William Kaiser". Do you know who would have a photo of him and his grandson ( my wife's cousin) cutting the ribbon at the opening cerimony??

By Karen in Oshkosh on Monday, January 14, 2002 - 04:34 pm:

Nancy Nelson...see the message about Heikki Lunta on December 27th (if I have the date right...it is the pasty cam of the three people and the dog on the ice). I remember a spring time parade with people banging pots and pans and chasing Heikki Lunta out of town.

Nancy, here's all you'd want to know about Heikki Lunta! http://pasty.com/winter2002/heikki.html

We lived in Coburntown,at the top of Mt.Ripley, and as kids would slide down the hill on our backs, using just our nylon winter coats..what a ride. Can still remember walking back up,and getting bowled over by the next sledder...ouch!

Can anyone tell me if Kaleva's has a website where I can order cinnamon toast? I have family that live on Oscar Bay Road and spent many summers in the UP. I have grown rather fond of Michigan Toast (as we called it) and have been wanting some lately! Any advice would be great!
