You should hear the roar of the rain beating on our roof as I upload today's Pasty Cam. (Thanks Rose and Marlin for a couple of good glimpses of current conditions).

The weather report says we may see that rain turn to snow tonight, putting us well over the 300" mark here in Keweenaw County. Our own weather man, John Dee, in his Snow Central Journal has some great shots of Traprock Valley and Hungarian Falls.

We have a great picture of this falls with my Grandfather smiling from ear to ear in front of it. Unfortunately he is gone now but thanks for bringing back a great memory.

Seeing this great picture Jacobs Falls reminded
me of the time a dam above the falls let go.
The water crashed thru Highway 26 - washed out
a motel /rock shop & left a boulder field almost
to the lake. I believe it was in the 70's.
Does anyone have more or better info - than my
foggy memory

The dam you speak of was a beaver dam up above the second falls. I believe it let go around 70, 71 time frame. It took out the motel, the rock shop and half the road. I used to fish on the little bridge in front of the motel as a kid. Caught my first rainbow trout there.

By Mary Butala Long on Tuesday, November 6, 2001 - 11:32 pm:

Hey Bro, along with fishing we also did a lot of climbing that falls. Dad took me there and I also caught my first and only rainbow trout there. I was so upset that I tried to save it, mom had to eat it, I wouldn't. Don't forget about saving Bob up that falls somewhere. Just take your time and you'll get him.
