What was that we said about the big melt last week? Overnight temps in the Copper Country dipped into single digits, with windchills way less than nothin'.

In the middle of it all, suddenly the tires began clunkin' like we had two flats! Luckily (and typically) no one was behind us, so we did the Chinese firedrill and... wah! Turned out to be two big chunks of ice up in the wheel wells. Thank you Saint Urho!

By Scott on Sunday, March 25, 2001 - 06:42 pm:

Cliff Drive, I 'd say...

By Bill Penprase, Ca. on Sunday, March 25, 2001 - 07:00 pm:

I'd say between Eagle River and Phoenix.

By Tom, Wi on Sunday, March 25, 2001 - 07:17 pm:

I'm guessing it's Cliff Drive.

By Carole, Sterling Hts. on Sunday, March 25, 2001 - 07:25 pm:

I agree with Bill, between Phoenix and Eagle River.

p.s. It is just as cold downstate here in Sterling Heights, with snow off and on all weekend, but fortunately no accumulation.

By Lani, Florida on Sunday, March 25, 2001 - 07:44 pm:

I'd say Cliff Drive, too, but up there, it could be anyplace. Happy Snowmobiling!

By Dick Fields, Florida on Sunday, March 25, 2001 - 09:38 pm:

How about Cliff Dr. between Senaca Lake & Ahmeek.

By Alice, California on Monday, March 26, 2001 - 12:03 am:

I'm guessing the road along what used to be my folks house on Pilgrim road, ha,ha. It could be anywhere but brrrr... it sure looks cold.

By Sis Hamilton, Concord CA on Monday, March 26, 2001 - 02:05 am:

Carmen, Brrr, this one really looks cold...

By Alicia,Michigan on Monday, March 26, 2001 - 08:52 am:

Looks like the stretch of road between Eagle Harbor and U.S.41 .
Alicia

By Paul, Hancock on Monday, March 26, 2001 - 09:34 am:

Scott, you're right. It is Cliff Drive.

By mike, tx on Monday, March 26, 2001 - 12:09 pm:

I think somewhere in the U.P. ! It was snowing here in North Texas this morning too. Can't wait to get back to the U.P. Those long winters really let you appreciate spring and summer. I remember we got pounded with snow April 1 of "87" and then the white gold surprised us again the second week of May "89" (i think). May sound crazy but, i miss it.

By Brion Wisconsin on Monday, March 26, 2001 - 01:39 pm:

Looks to me like Cliff Drive just before the downhill to the Little Gratiot River. Wish I was there.

By Walt, Ohio on Monday, March 26, 2001 - 02:53 pm:

I'm guessing with Bill P.

By Nancy Nelson, WI on Monday, March 26, 2001 - 03:03 pm:

Alice from California--who lived on Pilgrim Road--Alice Lahti????

By Evelyn Hanrahan, Texas on Monday, March 26, 2001 - 04:13 pm:

Mike of N Texas.
You must be close to us in Wichita Falls, we had snow flakes as large as cotton balls here today, very unseasonable. O well, it always warms up after a few days, not to worry.
The picture for today could be any road in the UP, they all look alike under those conditions. Very beautiful indeed but I know everyone is anxious for spring.

By Rose Fields - Illinois on Monday, March 26, 2001 - 10:22 pm:

It looks like Cliff Drive to me too, one of my favorite places. Hey, do I have relatives I don't know in Florida? I see a Fields up above!

By R Somero CA on Monday, March 26, 2001 - 11:57 pm:

Looks like lots of us now live in California. I am Roger Somero from Hancock-Hancock High class of '67. Tech in '72. Now live in San Jose. Anyone else care to add to this? Florida, Texas, etc., all are welcome.

By Julie on Tuesday, March 27, 2001 - 03:38 pm:

I used to live in MI. Not the upper but cold enough. I live in central FL now and love it. Snow is just another four letter word now. Thank goodness we don't have to cope with the white stuff anymore.

By Alice Neilson, Ventura, CA on Saturday, March 31, 2001 - 10:24 am:

Nancy Nelson-
My mom and dad were Alma and Louis Perskari. I remember Alice Lahti. They lived across the road. I remember visiting the Lahti's when I was a little kid. Got sick on the red cherries that weren't quite ripe, but we couldn't stop eating. That was before the folks built the house on Pilgrim...we went up summers and stayed in the old house on Paradise Road. Hope you get this note since it took a while for me to get back and read the later messages. Please write.

By Aaron, the Twin Cities MN on Thursday, April 5, 2001 - 11:02 am:

I miss it there too. Round here they are talking about the "bad" snow this winter (a whole 76", yah, right! 76" is nothin). I still have pictures from Hubbel where all you can see is the roofs of the neighbors houses after the month long (30 straight days) Christmas snow of 98-99 season.
