Our "Bridge Cam", which links off the Pasty Central home page, has occasionally drawn some comments about strange apparitions at night. I thought these people just had an active imagination... until I saw it myself on New Year's Day.

The Bridge Cam resides in an upstairs bedroom at Bill and Daryl Laitila's home in Hancock. There's a bit of a reflection on the inside of the window. You will notice in these consecutive captured minutes, Daryl is apparently doing some evening vacuuming. Also look at the cars on the bridge... and the beacons on the tower.

My "bridge cam" hasn't been working for 2 days (although everything else on the site works). I figured it was just out of service for a bit, but nobody else has mentioned it ..... Is it my computer, or is the camera actually out of service?

This is my first time to send a message and Leslie I too can't get the bridge cam. January was a great month for the pictures. How ever will one be picked for next year's calendar. I'm just one of the silent admirers.

I can't see the cars on the bridge, and what about the beacons on the towers? Is this a test? If it is I flunked!! Clever though.

Take another look at the Bridge Cam:

For some reason the power was off on the camera for the last couple of days. Must have been one of those "mysterious night moves" Charlie mentioned.

In order to see the picture change you have to click on the "Update" link below the picture. The Bridge Cam is a still picture - not a movie or video and only updates every 60 seconds. Lots of people write in and say they can't see the traffic moving. Well, this is why. Hope this explanation helps.

OK I did what you told me to do and the picture just disappears. Need another idea.. Love the site. Thanks for all the great pictures.

One of my favorite things to do when I visited my aunt in Hancock was to sit on her porch and wait for the Ranger to leave or return from Isle Royale and watch the bridge go up. When we heard the horn honk we'd run across Royce Rd. and get a closer view of the bridge. It was exciting being on the Ranger and actually going under the bridge. I also remember the old bridge....walking across those slatted boards and looking down into the water below....scary!

My Aunt also lived on Royce Road in Ripley across from the slag pile and I would love to watch the Ranger and all the other ships go under the lift bridge. Years ago, there was a Great Lakes cruise ship named The South American, it would dock at Chodas Dock in Houghton.

One year as a student at Tech, I lived in the first house going up the hill on Bridge street. I always liked seeing the bridge everyday. It's nice to be able to go to the bridge cam and see a familiar old sight! Thanks so much for the wonderful views.

I can't tell you how many times my fellow Toots and I fantasized about blowin' this bridge to Kingdom Come from atop Quincy Hill, securing our paradisial futures by castle moat from the foul lower world, living in Luddite paradise on the Isle of Keweenaw.
Ahhh...those were the days!
They were I tell ya!
