Somewhere along the path at the Porkies...

For me, the feeling which this Pasty Cam shot inspires is that of laying at the base of this tree, looking up through the branches on a clear, sunny day. ...only there would not be so much coating on the limbs, as much of it would have fallen off on my head during the impact when I strayed from the downhill trail.

Time to gather my poles, inspect my own limbs, and try again. But let me just lay here for a minute :o)

What beauty there is in the U.P. Thanks to all of you who share your photo's with us and for bringing "home" to us each day! As always, Dan, another winner!

Dan....You are living proof of Churchill's quote..."Nature shall not be admired by proxy!"
Thanks for brightening my days with your lovely shots of my beloved Keweenaw. My Dad also enjoyed them when he was here at Christmas. We are Houghton natives.

Beautiful shot! We recently drove through Arkansas from Memphis to Texarkana, Tx. and we saw this exact same thing...only twice as thick! It was a sunny day and it gave an eerie feeling that you were in a crystal forest; the pine trees all had their tops off and the other trees had their branches bent to the ground from the thick ice. It was indeed a sight to behold! But, at the same time, thousands of people were with out electricity and water, so there is bad with the beautiful! We saw thousands of trees with broken branches and some even totally uprooted! That was the ice storm to beat all.

To Cathy, above: Loved that quote! I had the frozen fingers to prove it, too. Good thing that one of the Park Rangers took pity on me and shared her warming hut at the top of the chairlift.

Hey Ken, the auto-bracketing feature on the Olympus E10 is a lifesaver in weather like this. Can even shoot with gloves on.

After staring for some time in admiration, Dan, I'm thinking a kind of Mondrian/Pollock cross-pollination effect...oops, maybe staring too long...ahh, yes it's the light blue pieces of Arabic mosaic in the top half contrasted with the dark sinuous tree-limbs below that ground this shot and make it something special...
