Just look at the rosy cheeks on this little poika. What a cute little Valentine, red hat and all. Mom and Dad, Patricia and Michael Forgrave have started this little Yooper out right, making sure to nurture a love for the outdoors and snow! For those of you new to the site, the "shovel" being used, is a Silver Bear Snowscoop, (kid size of course) manufactured right here in the Keweenaw, by one of our fine sponsors who make these daily visits possible. That means it's not only American made, but Yooper made too, can't get much better than that!

Could this be a future snow fighter, what a cute little kid. the snow bank to the right must be two feet taller than the kid.

By Dave, now snow in MD on Saturday, February 14, 2004 - 09:06 am:

Patricia & Michael, great photos in your gallery. I try to tell people here in the East about the snow y'all receive, now they will believe. Here in the East, any snow we receive is called a snow-storm. I know most of the snow you receive is lake effect snow or LES. Here we would call it LESS. Now that is some acronymic oxymoron.

A 'YOOPER SCOOPER' in training, looks like he is really enjoying his work, check back with him again in 20 or 30 years. Cute pic!

I have both size snow scoops in the garage. Seems like by the time the kids out-grow the small size; they don't want anything to do with the larger size. Today is my daughter's golden birthday and her middle name is Rose. She loves winter sports [but not yooper-scoopering]

By Dave H. Corryton TN. on Saturday, February 14, 2004 - 10:50 am:

Sorry, but i don't miss the white stuff.Been there done that as a kid in $Bay & then some in lower Mich. So happy to be here in the south where i have no need for a snow scoop. If it wasn't for the snow 5 months a year i'd of come back home and bought Greenspot & put a fence around it.Here in TN.it is alot like up there in so many ways, except the weather, & that is why i'am here! But i'am proud of my roots,it was good to have grown up in $ Bay.

What a cutie!
Happy Valentines Day !

By Patti, TN on Saturday, February 14, 2004 - 12:32 pm:

Therese

Just for you...I added a picture to my online album of the Big Snow in Tennessee last week-end...2/7/04. I think measureable precipitation was all of 1/16" in Brentwood, TN; which is Franklin's neighbor...

Every day, I miss home, but a lot of days...not the 200+ inches of it.

Happy Valentine's Day to our troops all over the world - especially our Yooper in Iraq - we love and appreciate you all!

By Victor on Saturday, February 14, 2004 - 01:01 pm:

To paraphrase a drill sargeant of many years ago... "You will shovel that snow and you will like it."

Cute kid give him an extra quarter.

Do they still tip a quarter for cleaning walks???

By Scott,wi. on Saturday, February 14, 2004 - 01:13 pm:

Always thought we had more snow when
I was young, I think it was because I was
just shorter. Good memories the snow
and winters. Nothing more fun then making
a snowfort or just a big pile. I like
the excitement the snow generates.

Happy Valentine's Day All!

What a little cutie! Kids are so cuddly in their snowsuits. I have such fond memories of my own little ones all bundled up to play in the snow. It took a long time to get them (and myself) dressed, but then we had so much fun, it was well worth it.

By Sandy, Lower, MI on Saturday, February 14, 2004 - 03:31 pm:

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY to a special person, our son and brother, Paul J. (MTU student extraordinare). Enjoy your day, Paul! Countdown is on until graduation day and you get to come home again. Love, Mom, Phil, Jenny.

By The Forgraves, Calumet MI on Saturday, February 14, 2004 - 04:20 pm:

Thank you for the wonderful comments about our son. To
Jim in Texas: I'm not sure if you'd want him to help you
down there. He liked to take the snow from the road and
put it in the driveway :)

This little guy almost wasn't up here for this picture. We
had moved away shortly before he was born. Every day, we
would check in to today's pasty cam and really feel
homesick.

We would like to thank everyone that contributes to
pasty.com. Seeing those pictures made us realize that we
were meant to be in the UP. Six months after leaving - we
came back.

We cannot thank you enough for helping to bring us back
home.

By CK in Chassell on Saturday, February 14, 2004 - 05:06 pm:

I think that little poika deserves a pasty for dinner after all that hard work!

By finngal fl panhandle on Saturday, February 14, 2004 - 05:46 pm:

Will second that on the pasty dinner for the little poika and a sauna too!
NOT missing the snow and cold in the UP. 55 winters were enough!

By trish, wa on Saturday, February 14, 2004 - 06:45 pm:

I like the kiddie version of a Kromer on this little guy.

By J.A. , Mi on Saturday, February 14, 2004 - 08:18 pm:

just discovered this lovely website. Calumet and Copper Harbor have a special place in my heart ever since I was a little girl. My father designed the lift bridge in Houghton ... so your pictures are 'extra special' to me!

By Mary Drew - Pasty Central - On the Road on Saturday, February 14, 2004 - 11:23 pm:

Hi folks,

Just checking in with my Pasty.net Dial-In, from Indianapolis, Ind. and it's working great! That's right....I'm on the road! Nothing even close to Toivo's whirlwind tour, but am traveling south through eight states! There's still snow on the ground here in Indiana, but not nearly as much as home in the Keweenaw....

By m olson in twin cities on Saturday, February 14, 2004 - 11:44 pm:

Yooppers have to start out early to learn what to do with all the snow we get each year. thank GOD for kids in the winter. I live in the twin cities area and most of the people do not know what a snow scoop is, matter of fact they don't know what a sno-go is either!!!! tv stations start to make comments of how many days straight of snow they get, 20 out of 23 days, where the measures are around 2-3 inches per day and they think its alot.. I told them to take a 7 hour trip up to the U.P. to see what snow is, I have not gotten a reponse yet.

By Julie Barrie The Netherlands formly Michigan on Sunday, February 15, 2004 - 03:54 am:

Mary Drew have a safe and happy trip... take good care... :)

By Debi, Laurium on Sunday, February 15, 2004 - 03:53 pm:
