My thanks to Mary Drew for taking on the role of Pasty Cam Editor this year. I miss doing the daily write-up and selecting each day's photo, but I sure appreciate the extra hours it has given my schedule, working with the pasty production and Internet service here in the Copper Country.

I'd like to add a note about Ed Nikulas, a long-time resident of Still Waters who passed away this month. He was the fun-loving 90 year-old I referred to in this account from the Pasty Cam archives:

The question about pay for the residents reminded me of a few years ago when we started giving paychecks after the veggie peeling sessions. One of our men took his walker from the dining room to a sitting area, and we handed him a check. "What's this?" he asked. Dolly answered that from now on the residents would be getting paychecks for their work. He stared for a moment in disbelief. Then he waived it in the air and shouted, "Woo Hoo! There really is a Santa Claus!"

My mom, Lillian Kirk, would have been 85 today. In her memory I just made a donation to Still Waters. My mom liked snow, as long as she didn't have to drive in it. I think she would have liked Still Waters, which seems to be staffed by kind and caring people, like my mom. If you're still thinking about end-of-the-year charitable donations for tax purposes, here's the link: http://www.pasty.com/payments.html. Happy New Year to all!

While we miss our mother, Marie Goulette, who passed away Dec. 14 this year at age 94, we are so blessed by the lovely messages from friends. She spent every minute of her life truly alive, lifting the spirits of those around her. A woman who never said an unkind word about anyone else, I am sure she is resting comfortably in the arms of her Lord. Here are our best wishes for a happy, safe and bright New Year. Remember those whom you love tonight, and make sure to tell them before the year is out!

By Martha L. on Saturday, January 3, 2004 - 01:23 pm:

I was so saddened to see that Martha Hocking passed away. I know that she had not been well the past couple of years. My mom, who lives with us, gets a newsletter from Charles and Martha so we were kept up to date on their lives that way. I always liked her because she was one of the first people I met that had the same first name as mine. My father went to high school with Charles Hocking, so our families have known each other a long time. I'm so thankful that Martha had a right relationship with the Lord and that she is in His presence now! Our prayers will now be with Charles as he deals with his grief and tries to continue to serve the Lord as he has done for so many years.

What a beautiful picture...I'd like to add my wonderful mom, Dianne Koljonen (Trapp) who passed away in 1996. The memories I have of her are endless from watching her draw to waking up to the sound of her playing the piano in the morning. I miss her so much and not a day goes by where I don't think of our memories together. My mom accomplished things in her short life that most couldn't do in a lifetime! So, for anyone who knew her knows just how special she was.
