I just couldn't resist Jake and Uncle Smitty for today's shot, because I only have a couple of summer days left on my weekday shift. Also, I think it was Jake's sister with the ice cream featured a couple of weeks ago on the steps of the Eagle River store. Maybe Lori could verify this. Equal time to the guys, I say.

Sorry about the regression to 1999 on yesterday's Cam. I am almost positive I heard a radio report calling it hurricane Floyd - - but I see here on the Internet it's Isabel battering the Eastern Time Zone back home.

When next we meet, I may be logging on from Australia. But wherever - - the U.P. is always on my mind. Which, I suppose, is probably why you stop by here, too. Have a good weekend ;>

Looks like Uncle Smitty might be one of them "snowbirds", U.P. for the summer, Florida in the winter. My grandparents did that route for 15 years; really the best of both worlds. And, God willing, my wife and I plan to follow the same tradition.

DAVE S. If you can"wing it" good for you.Best wishes.

When are we gonna see some pictures of you in Alaska, NZ and etc??
Hmmmmm

By Mike R. New Berlin, WI on Friday, September 19, 2003 - 09:08 am:

Believe me Smitty is a yooper thru and thru. Born and raised in Negaunee, but now owns the Walleye Lodge in Berglund. You ought to see Jacob play Hockey. Holly wah.

You are right Toivo, this is Carolyn's brother Jake. He didn't think it was fair that she was on Pasty Cam and he wasn't, so thank you for restoring peace to our home!!!

Uncle Smitty does make it to Florida every year, he squeezes in a trip after snowmobile season ends and before fishing season starts.

might want to check the spelling in todays picture caption - a missing letter can really change the meaning (great picture though !)

By Marsha, Aura and Genesee on Friday, September 19, 2003 - 10:23 am:

Mike: I was thinking the same thing, but decided to let you bring it up!

By Lorelei, Michigan on Friday, September 19, 2003 - 01:52 pm:

Great slide show. On a day like today, sunshine on the web will have to do. Thanks Lori.

Well I went back to the caption...and got a good laugh! Thanks....for the pics...and the laughs

Toivo, Toivo... Your weekend counterpart here, taking over a little early, just fixed the misprint our proofreading Cammies found.

By the way, I'm typing this in the laundry room at the Eagle River Inn, where we just installed Pasty.NET wireless today. Our goal is to get every community around the Keweenaw connected with this faster pipeline to the Internet. Special thanks to the Keweenaw County Commissioners for working with us to bring broadband to the courthouse, sheriff, and surrounding residents.

Good morning from Ohio. I was driving home the other night listening to the local Christian radio station and the sponsors that night were Pasty.net and a few other UP companies! I thought I was back in the UP, hearing names like Houghton, Bruce Crossing, etc. It was a nice surprise.

Mike in Pontiac, I didnt even notice the word spelled wrong till you pointed it out. LOL!!

By Original Troll Diva, Ferndale, MI on Saturday, September 20, 2003 - 10:19 am:

2 weeks I will be in the beautiful UP! Cant wait!!!

By Connie - Colorado on Saturday, September 20, 2003 - 10:27 am:

Melodie- Did they say Bruce Crossing or did they say it like the yoopers do? (Bruce's Crossing).

By Melodie, Former Yooper, OH on Saturday, September 20, 2003 - 03:34 pm:

Ha,ha, Connie, I don't remember. I almost typed Bruce's Crossing, but thought about it first. It's hard to lose the Yooper influence, but it's been nearly 25 years since I lived there.

By Connie on Saturday, September 20, 2003 - 04:44 pm:

It's been 23 for me. I visit whenever I can.

By L on Friday, October 31, 2003 - 11:27 am:

Did anyone notice the pasty.com emblem in the water? It looks kind of like a shark. But wait, there aren't sharks in Lake Gogebic are there? (Jessica Simpson would probably think that there are, but that's another story.....)
