Unbelievable! My wife and I drove/hiked to the falls on the Gratiot River today. We found the two sets of falls about a mile inland to the mouth of the river. Can anyone tell me if there are more?
Thanks!

Wow, look at those colors already. It won't be long 'til the trees are bare, huh?

Winter's comin'...

On an unrelated topic, I noticed that the Silver Bear Manufacturing website no longer has the "Business For Sale" heading on it. Can anyone tell me if the company has been sold?

By scooper on Wednesday, September 17, 2003 - 09:23 am:

It has been sold to a local buyer and will continue to be manufacture and sell it's products.

Thanks scooper,
I was hoping someone would step up and keep the company going. I gave it some thought myself but just could not get the resources together.

That appears to be the lower falls. There are another set of falls about a half mile upstream of those.

You used to be able to access the upper falls from farmers block road but that has since been posted.

Thank you, thank you pasty.com for posting this pic with the autumn colors. Combined with Lake Superior, they're probably what I miss most about the U.P., (although there's lots that I miss.) I'd be thrilled if you'd continue to show more autumn colors.

Those are the only two I know of

Nice Picture brother!.... :)

I really enjoyed your picture, West. I'm a teacher in southeast Michigan, so I just can't take the time off to make it up that far to enjoy the color in person. I can promise that when I retire I'll be up there to watch it happen for sure. For now, this is the next best thing. Thanks.

By Yooper in Kansas Ick, I really hate living in Kansas on Wednesday, September 17, 2003 - 06:02 pm:

Wow! What a pretty picture! I can't wait to visit the U.P. in a month!!

By Ms. Katie, Il. on Wednesday, September 17, 2003 - 08:16 pm:

To Yooper in Kansas,,,I love the U.P. also, but I must give Kansas it's due. I remember traveling the first time in S.E. Ks. when I saw the Flint Hills , is it? They're awesome. Also last spring we traveled east from Junction City on the interstate and I was impressed with those hills too. Maybe it's the artists eye I've developed. The stark dark and light was neat. Lucky you, getting to the U.P. next month.Have a wonderful time.

What a wonderful view. I can almost hear the water rushing by. Can't wait to see the colors in the UP this fall. Thanks for sharing it.

By Keith, Kansas on Wednesday, September 17, 2003 - 08:48 pm:

Hey Yooper in Kansas...I have to agree with Ms. Katie...Kansas really does have its own special qualities and the Flint Hills provide an exceptional example of that thought! Being out here myself, I have to admit that I miss the U.P.'s trees and clear lakes/streams the most!

Hey Mike B. from Pittsburgh-
My father was the past owner of Silver Bear, but yes he has sold it. The new owners will continue to sell all products as previously sold, and will operate out of the same building. It's good to keep it in the UP!!

What / who is Silver Bear?

By Charlie at Pasty Central on Thursday, September 18, 2003 - 07:14 am:

silverbearSilver Bear, one of the earliest sponsors of the Pasty Cam, sells snow scoops and roof rakes all over the country. When you call for more information, be sure to tell them you heard about it on the Pasty Cam. Silverbear: 906-337-4494

By Troll in EH on Thursday, September 18, 2003 - 07:15 am:

Bill Denning...do a google search for silver bear. They are located in Laurium,Mi.I doubt if they have a real demand for their product in Texas.

Hey West, good picture, Happy to be your Grandma

By danbury; germany on Thursday, September 18, 2003 - 04:26 pm:

Sigh ... and by the way, that gives me an idea for all that white stuff you move with your SilverBear-equipment - mail it over! Right now it's 80+F outside (2230 pm), and I recall that a couple of years ago we were running around in T-Shirts doing some really late christmas-shopping. Without some real experience myself, that sounds very different from UP-conditions to me.
We don't even get a good foliage here (though the locals think otherwise).
