One of the first Pasty Cameos we produced back in 2008 was about the Atlas Powder Company, with photos and narrative from Bill Haller. Every now and then, new pictures come to our attention, related to that mining explosive operation. It would be interesting to know if the packaging was handled as delicately as the first picture suggests.

The second scan is a brochure from back in the day, when a well placed stick of dynamite would be quite a labor saving alternative for removing those unsightly stumps. Just a little lesson in power farming.

My first question is where is that mural? That is a beautiful picture and I have heard of women who packed explosives at the DuPont Powder mill in Delaware back in the day. Although, that begs another question; how much of a headache did she have by the end of the day? ;-)

I'm not sure about the last photo though; I can almost picture the scene from Caddyshack with Bill Murray attempting to eradicate the gopher from the golf course.......

Capt. Paul, I was having the exact same thought about that second picture! Could hear Bill Murray muttering a little.... Love this old art! Each conveys the intended message clearly and without being obnoxious and loud! To my way of thinking that's great advertising! Beautiful graphics.

Back in the "good old days" when just about anyone could buy explosives; before the era of "Homeland Security".

In the 'good old days' we used to play with mercury (coating coins, etc) in high school chemistry class....now 60 years later we're told it'll kill us.:-/

One "headache" the women had at the Tamaqua Atlas plant where blasting caps were made, were were the daily inspections to insure that NO LACE or NYLON undergarments (capable of static electric spark) were worn.

Also, production stopped and the building was evacuated during lightening storms, again due to static discharges ...
