When Ken and Fran Meerschaert and family arrived at their Bootjack camp the end of May, they found quite a surprise…a pile of snow still sitting there, slowly melting in the sun. Neighbors told them that the snow drift had been about 12 - 14 feet high and that they had been watching it slowly dwindling away since spring had finally arrived here in the Keweenaw.

The Meershaert's figure they may be the only ones left in Bootjack that still had snow on the ground at the end of May. Their grandkids didn't seem to mind it too much, playing on the pile and even making a snowman. It's not often you can do that in shirtsleeves and tennis shoes.

The last photo of their grandson jumping off the dock into Portage Lake shows the contrast of the time at their camp, with the snow play and the water play all in the same day!

Nice pix, but is the grandson jumping in or is he really jumping out? :-)

Thanks for the fun pictures, Ken and Fran! What a pretty spot!

Yesterday's MODIS satellite image shows a few dots of ice still floating out in Lake Superior. What an incredible year.

A little more fun with some snow in June, kids here in Iowa can't say that!
