Do you remember seeing those legs sticking out of the snow bank on Calumet Ave (M26/US41) in Calumet, back on Jan. 9th? Well, they're stuck again, only this time it looks like they may have fallen off the roof. If that's the case, they certainly didn't fall far, since the snow is nearly up to the peak of the roofline there now. Pretty amazing!

Brita Haapala captured those legs, along with a photo of a disappearing building further north on M26/US41. That's the yellow building on the left side of the road as you're going north, between Kearsarge and Allouez, with the Phillipsville sign on the top of it and an Eagle Harbor Lighthouse sign on the face of the building not in this photo. The next two photos were snapped by Dylan Cruickshank. Yes, that really is a building underneath all that snow. Dylan was out in Rabbit Bay, shoveling off the roof of a hunting camp. In the first photo, you can only see the front door and the corner or the roof on the right side showing. Then in the second shot, he had shoveled a tunnel to the front door. How's that for getting buried?

I feel like a broken record, playing over and over with the snow shots, but this is what we're dealing with here UP North, along with the bitter cold this winter. Just figured we should at least share it with the rest of the world, in pictures, since many folks never see this much snow.

That's okay, Mary, these pix just make me appreciate our 6" of snow ~ which has gone.

Oh my goodness, Mary. "This Morning America's" Weather
Announcer, Ginger Zee of Grand Rapids, announced how cold and
snowy it was in the U.P. on ABC last week, and my heart beat extra
hard with pride. Naturally, I told everyone here in Toronto about it.
Seeing is believing though, and I thank you for the photos.

Holy smokes! I've lived through that stuff but it
still amazes me just how much snow actually falls
UP there.

Dylan shovels my mom out every winter. He's a good
kid. Does a lot for her. Nice to see his pictures
on the pasty cam.

We are buried up here and we have the pictures to
prove it!

Buried is definitely the right word. Unbelievable...may you all rest in peace :-O

The high snow banks remind me of one winter when walking down the road to U.S. 41 to catch the school bus, we kids could touch the telephone wires with our mitten-covered hands!

And I remember walking head down out of the valley north of Centennial Heights to do some grocry shopping and wondering why my wife was silently tapping on my backpack frame only to turn and see her coming along about twenty feet behind. The tapping turned out to be the power line to our home as we walked the firmer roadside bank of snow to ease our passage rather than walk in the deep drifts on the road. Hunkering down I plodded on!

Richard, that's funny and scary at the same time ~ being that close to a power line.
About these buildings ~ I have to wonder how much damage they suffer after being buried in all that snow!!

Out here yesterday, one of the larger grocery
chains had part of their roof cave in. I guess out
here, they don't realize that when the snow piles
up, you actually have to go out and scrape it off.
I should send them these pictures that Dylan took.

Should be a super year for waterfalls!
