A follow up to last week's Shoebox Memory about that distinctive building south of Calumet which used to feature a free museum, maintained by the local grocer Al Paulson. Read about it on the Genealogy Page, where the top photo from Paul Petosky is found. The two scenes inside the museum are among the excellent collection from Don "UpNorth Memories" Harrison.

Mr. Paulson and my Parents were good friends. I remember being invited to his camp at either Eagle Harbor or Eagle River. Going fishing on his boat for lake trout and whitefish. Had a lighthouse not far from his place which we used when returning from fishing. Nothing but good memories............

These photos are memory lane for me. I lived on Millionaire Street, which is the street which ends at US 41 in Osceola, where the museum was. And on the other side of the highway was Paulson's grocery store, where my mom would send me and my brother to get the grocery orders she'd phone in. Al Paulson had a penny candy section, which we made great use of. I remember Al Paulson, his store & museum and the childhood memories as if it was yesterday. I don't want to say "those were the days", because as long as I'm healthy and happy, "these are the days" too!! Thank you for the wonderful nostalgic pictures!!

I remember when I was about 7 or 8 going with my aunt and uncle to the museum. I loved to hear the music machines play, see Big Louie's clothes and shoes and all the other stuff that was in there. Long time ago, I'm 74 now. Used to know Hubert and May Abramson who lived on Millionaire St.
