If you've been following the Pasty Cam for awhile, you may recall occasional photos I've shared of the Escanaba Eskymoes hockey team on the ice. That's because my great-nephew Derek was on the team. Since then, he's graduated from high school hockey and is now playing on the Finlandia Lions Varsity squad as a college freshman. We're excited, because that means whenever they play at "home", the games are in Hancock, so we get to enjoy the thrill of watching him play much more often and at a college level, besides.

He's number 26 in today's photos, which was the second game this past weekend, against Aurora College from Illinois. The Lions won Saturday night 4 to 2 and went on to a tie game on Sunday night. There are actually three U.P. born and raised players on the FU roster, my nephew, freshman Derek Chaillier, from Escanaba, sophomore Lucas Lahnala, from Calumet and freshman Cody Wickstrom, from Marquette. It sure is fun watching these local boys playing collegiate hockey! GO FINLANDIA LIONS!!

How exciting! I enjoyed the pictures today. I was a
hockey-wife and a hockey-mom-for many years and spent
an enormous number of hours around ice rinks!

Neat Photos, Mary. I spent many hours in many rinks all over watching my son play. Never regretted a moment of frozen fingers and feet!
We drove through blizzards and whiteouts; schools were closed but hockey moms drive on......
