Thanks to Judy Byykkonen, we're getting our first look at the fall colors in the Keweenaw. Judy took her trio of pups for a walk in the woods and found some beautifully colored leaves amongst the green that some of the trees are still sporting.

Between snapping pictures of the colorful leaves and keeping track of all three of her four-legged friends, it was a busy walk for Judy. In case you're wondering, the pup's names are (left to right), Giselle, Mandy and Minnie. That's Giselle in the bottom photo, too, Judy's newest addition to her furry family. Looks like Judy will be going on walks for many years to come with a youngster like that around.

All adorable pups, but the Scottie melts my heart!

Aww...love the doggies, Judy!
And beautiful leaves also ~ my maples are changing too but am afraid more are dropping than turning....lack of sufficient rain lately.

Great photos, thanks! I love the fall colors! Giselle can come to our house for a couple of months.

Mikie asked about the fall colors on the west coast of the lower peninsula. I noted just a day or two ago that at our location just south of Muskegon, there were no leaves turning on the dunes right on the lakeshore. The big silver maple in my backyard is showing a little bit of color, and now the grapevines are going gold. But that's about it. I checked the Lake Michigan surface temperature map, and it looks like water temps are holding in the mid-60's a long way north, so that warm water should be buffering any really cold night air as long as the wind stays out the south or west, which it looks like it will for several days. NOAA MODIS satellite imagery isn't available right now due to government shutdown, so I can't see if any color is showing there. A few webcams up north of Manistee don't seem to be showing much color. So my guess, Mikey, is that you'll see some splashes of color amid mostly green. Let us know what you actually encounter!

Pretty autumn photos. The reds and oranges have always been my favorites. And Giselle is an adorable little girl! Thank you, Judy and Mary.

Dr. Sawbridge (today's day in history focus)is still well remembered here in Stephenson..Sawbridge field at the school complex, and the name used quite commonly in our area in commemoration.

I did a double-take when I read your post, Gormfrog ~ our dentist when we lived in Charlevoix was Dr. Strawbridge.:D But a "tr" difference.

I meant to post this earlier in the day, but time slipped away from me.
Yesterday's photos were posted late in the evening, so if you missed them, here's a link to check them out:

Love your doggies, Judy and your fall pics.

Dunerat, same fall scene here in Ontonagon. The colors should be prime in another few days. The reds, will be vibrant, like "Sharon Smith" stated.

Town is buzzing, lots of hunters and "leaf peepers".

Love this time of year, no bugs, no snow, no mowing. :)

We are currently in Houghton and the color is somewhat patchy at best. We saw some very brilliant color on the road to Gay this morning but other areas are all green yet. And the same type of thing around Lac Labelle. But being UP here is the best part of all.

Thanks Dunerat.
