Good morning Marianne and Steve! Another beautiful day here in Minnesota. I'm loving this early fall weather. Perfect temps in the low 70's.

Hope you all have a great day!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 - 09:47 am:

This was our coldest morning, at least that I know of, this season: our overnight low temperature was 33 here in mid-Michigan. I think that is colder than John Dee reported for his lowest overnight low so far. It could be an interesting fall/winter.

I am finally seeing some red leaves on some of the trees shown on Michigan Tech's web cams. It does seem to be a late color season. Have a good day you all.

Yesterday both my daughter and my favorite niece announced their engagements. Feeling much Joy!

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 - 02:08 pm:

I don't know Marianne; normal peak times for colours in the UP are commonly the last week of September into the first two weeks of October, depending on where you're located of course so it seems like it's about normal. I can tell you that when we were driving around in late July/early August there were a lot more "early bloomers" than I remember in past years, but I also believe the trees might have been fooled a little by that cool snap that hit about the same time. It doesn't really matter when peak is however, I'm sure it will be beautiful as always.....

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 - 02:12 pm:

Hi. My son just called with a video chat to show me that a freighter was going down the Portage right now, heading east. That was pretty awesome. I didn't think at the time to have him take pictures with his iPhone. He was in a hurry to get to Career Fair. I am sorry, we don't know which freighter it was. (Just after 2:00 pm, 9/24/13) After not seeing much big traffic on the Portage, it is nice to see more. (His apartment faces the Portage by the Houghton pavilion park.)

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 - 02:29 pm:

It was the Kaye E. Barker going through. Mary posted the cam pics on FaceBook.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 - 02:41 pm:

Thank you, Janie T; that's really cool. That's interesting, Capt Paul. Some others who live up there now seem to think it is at least somewhat late this year, including John Dee, per his recent blogs. It really is just at the very beginning now, from the photos that I have seen.

PS I am one of an apparent minority who is not a member of FaceBook, and honestly, I am really happy these days that I never signed up for it, so I will have to see the time lapsed versions from the web cams when they are available tomorrow. :-)

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 - 03:33 pm:

I guess we're both in the minority then, Marianne. I can get into enough trouble by myself without everyone else knowing about through Facebook!! ;-)

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 - 03:43 pm:

Sorry my facebook was help for your freighter question.....

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 - 04:14 pm:

Aaaeee...what's a-matta wit you facebook :-O

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 - 04:21 pm:

Alex..I feel like I got facebook spanked...lmoa!

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 - 04:29 pm:

Naaa Janie, it's probably us technological luddites who need to be spanked!! And if you think I'm bad, Dr. Nat is worse; I just got her to start living in the 20th century.......

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 - 04:33 pm:

Oh, but I like spankings! ;)

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 - 06:30 pm:

Janie, I was just saying that I couldn't see it if it was on FaceBook. I wasn't trying to spank you, sorry. I just don't trust FaceBook for me, with the massive password thefts, etc. I have worried about ID theft for many years, long before it got a lot of publicity, etc. (And I am consistent: I have never had an ATM card, either, nor do I file our personal taxes online, nor do we do any online banking. There is just too much risk, and it is getting riskier.)

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 - 06:53 pm:

Computing can be risky, Marianne ~ my 'good' one crashed today!!:<

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 - 07:14 pm:

And it seems personal info continues to be at high risk. Ways to find your info seems to be the thrill of the hunt for info seeker violators. Sad!

do not take it personally......

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 - 07:38 am:

Great slideshow today! Love the full moon!

By Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 - 11:51 am:

Stay tuned to tomorrow's Pasty Cam (Thursday, Sept. 26th)...we'll be having some photos of the Kaye E. Barker coming down the Portage Canal, courtesy of one of our viewers AND the Mich. Tech Webcam. So those of you without a Facebook account aren't really missing out on that event, just that you'll see it a bit later, is all. :-)

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 - 12:20 pm:

Sounds good to me, Mary. I love freighters, and had an especially
good chance to see four of them and a Coast Guard boat along the
St, Clair River last weekend while traveling to visit my father in
the L.P.

By Waveaction (Lakelover) on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 - 04:37 pm:

mickill mouse, here's a quote I'm sure we can both relate to;

"Do the best you can, and don't take life too serious."

As for Facebook, if being paranoid is stopping you from exploring then you might as well just get rid of that computer.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 - 07:13 pm:

I love FB, but I have a lot of friends who want nothing to do with it because they don't feel comfortable sharing so much on a forum like that. That's okay. You can still use your computer for many more things.

Here's some experiences from a dense old lady who doesn't Know which end is up.....the other day I bought a TracPhone for my upcoming trip UP north. After several people helping I guess I'm suppose to be ready to go, right? Well it's been pinging ever sense and has no information on how to start the dang thing. Hoping neighbor will help me when she comes over to get instructions on caring for cat while I'm gone. ALSO I'm stuck on how to connect with an old friend I found on Facebook. But have no idea how to "talk" to her. Talk about stupid!!!!! I just don't understand computer language..........No young relatives around here to translate. Talk about frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!
