When Melanie Hakala Rossi spotted this unusual trail in the snow, she wasn't sure what could have made it. But after watching the hole it had made to come out by her bird feeder in Dollar Bay, she quickly figured out who her snow tunneling visitor was. Melanie said this busy little chipmunk had to dig through three feet of snow, from his "home in the ground", to get to her feeders. I guess after all that work, he deserves to get a few sunflower seeds for his efforts.

It's a common belief that when the chipmunks start emerging from their winter homes, that it's a sign of spring. I sure hope so, for that furry little critter's sake and all of folks here UP North that have been living with winter for what seems like forever.

That is truly amazing. I like my food too, but digging through three
feet of snow?!

Industrious little fellow!

That first photo looks like a miniature dinosaur had been burrowing through the snow.
We've been 'fighting' chipmunks for years...they're cute but very destructive!
Mary, hope you see flowers soon!:)

The first two pictures looks like a wedding cake frosting with edging.

Hi
A big trail for such a small animal.

I hope you yoopers do see the snow melt soon. It will hopefully help with the water levels in the Great lakes when it does melt.
