This past week, two folks from the Ontonagon area, headed out to capture some Lake Superior shoreline photos and they actually ended up taking their photos within days of each other. It's quite interesting to see how much the icy shores change so quickly.

The first two photos were taken by Frank Jezek and show the Porcupine Mountains in the background, along with the build up of ice that had accumulated. Then a day or so after those shots were snapped, the wind picked up, Lake Superior started rolling and the ice blew out to who knows where, just like that, gone. Frank's third photo shows the difference and the Big Lake all stirred up.

Fast forward another day and an email with photos attached, arrived from Elaine Robbins, who had been out around the same area taking pictures, too. Her first shot almost looks like it's Spring, with just a smattering of icy mounds left to melt. Her second shot, though, gives a better perspective of the temperature of the air, since the waves have coated everything above the water's surface with frozen water.

Thank you Frank and Elaine, for sharing your photos with us all... it's nice to get a look at the western side of the U.P.

Great pictures today!! Love anything having to do with Lake Superior. She is definitely her own boss!

The ice-laden shores remind me of Lake Michigan when we lived in Charlevoix. Eventually the ice built up so much it was impossible to see water anywhere near shore.

I was just there the other day too... didnt even think about bringing my camera! I was shocked at their lack of snow. We actually had more in Minocqua, WI.
