Chad Johnson was on his way to work Tuesday morning and as he passed the Quincy Mine Shaft, this is what he saw. Thank goodness he carries his camera with him at all times, for moments such as this one. The sunrise, combined with the foggy morning, gives a soft glow to this historic landmark of the mining days, that built up this area so many years ago.

If you've had the opportunity to see Quincy lit up at night, it's a beautiful sight, indeed. It's doubly nice and a special treat to see it lit up in the morning, too. Thanks for the solar lighting shot, Chad!

Wow, did we have problems with the power this morning in the Keweenaw! Up and down about 10 times.

When Mary prepared the notes for today's picture, the storm had not yet hit. But this is the perfect picture, because visibility is really poor this morning... but it's not fog :o)

Tis the Season, hey Charlie? Appreciate all the efforts keeping PastyCam going!

Great picture! Thanks Mary, Charlie and Chad!

Charlie and Mary, glad you made it in okay. Doesn't sound like fun. Be careful.
Love that sunrise, fog and all.

Nice sunrise. Today the countdown begins. 32 days until Christmas.

Charlie & Mary and all blessed enough to be in the CC: be careful out there!!!

The wind is really howling here too!

I guess I've been away from the U.P. too long because to me todays picture is backwards. In my mind's eye that would be a setting sun. Can someone set me straight?

Richard:

I'm sure it is a sunrise. The shaft angles down,
towards the west. The shafthouse is to the west of
the hoist building. Looks like the photo was taken
from Hwy-41 which is to the west of the shafthouse.

it is a sunrise

Chad your photo is very nice! Nothing like a gorgeous sunrise or sunset. I hope everyone is home safe and sound. The roads are very dangerous to be driving on in these conditions.

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Friday, November 23, 2012 - 09:43 pm:

great picture

By Barbara Bouwkamp (Barbarab) on Saturday, November 24, 2012 - 09:05 am:

Chad, Great Photo! I tried to get a photo the same morning, but didn't get far enough back to get the mine shaft in my photo. It was very mystical, the mine shaft and the sun through the haze of fog. I was there about 8:15 AM.

By Chad Johnson (Chadj) on Monday, November 26, 2012 - 10:46 pm:

Thanks everyone! Barbara, I took this picture about the same
time.
